I was a nurse so I also miss the compassionate and ability to do good aspect of my job. Other than that I don't miss the office politics and gossip and the stress level of working with limited resources.</p> <p>I will start doing a few hours of volunteer work for a weekly community health program in August. I am much happier now being home. I was looking for jobs before I became pregnant, but then stayed once I found out I was expecting. It would be nice to have more adult interaction, but I do not miss the office drama/negativity one bit! But those were mostly whilst I was in London so I think I'd be missing them even if I was working now. And finally, I sometimes miss feeling as though I'm challenging my brain on a daily basis, but that's my own fault if I'm not keeping myself intellectually stimulated.</p> <p>So, no, not really. Now that my daughter is night weaned and lets me read some during the day, I can get far more of it. It would be fun to advance my career, but I don't really miss it. I'm excited to go back to a scientific career in a few years, but I like being home and fully dedicated to my family in this period of my life.</p> <p>My mother in law is going to start taking my daughter for about 10 hours a week, so that I can volunteer at a local museum and resume build and network. I have really mixed feelings about it - on the one hand, I'm eager to get my foot in the door of a future career. On the other hand, I really like our life, and the freedom we have to totally set our own schedule. It'll be weird, for sure.
