Like you said, at daycare they stick to the schedule but on weekends if he does this then he goes down for an earlier nap. Today I actually put him down for two naps. We couldn't go outside anyway since the roads are really bad. No matter what happens during the day his bedtime routine is the same.

I cry. Jk. My older is almost 3 so I put him down like 30 mins earlier. He goes down around 130 though (wakes at 7). The baby (12 weeks) goes down an hour after he wakes.

How old? Before 8 months or so, we did naps based on wake time. So I would move the whole day's schedule up by an hour if he woke up an hour early, including bedtime. Now, we do naptime and bedtime at pretty much the same time every day regardless of when she woke up or how long she slept. If we adjust naptime, it's for my convenience, but she is 16 months and able to hang a lot better now.

Oh, and I would let him sleep as long as he wants! If he lost that hour overnight he may want to make it up during his nap... but I bet you he doesn't sleep for 4 hours.

This is us today too, though DS doesn't take marathon naps! We don't have a real schedule, I just follow 3hrs for nursing, and 2hrs for awake time. All flexible if he shows cues early. It always seems to even out by bedtime anyway.

I adjust the first nap for the early wake up (nap starts half hour to hour earlier). Naps usually work around last wake up so it might also affect his second nap too. Meals and bedtime don't change though. I try to keep both of my kids on the same schedule.

If you get him up at the 3 hour mark, then I'd do an earlier bedtime. That's what we do to catch up on the lost hour. LO has seen a lot of 6 p.m. bedtimes lately!

When this happens she goes down for a earlier nap. Naps are 5 hours from wake up.

Not a SAHM but on weekends if this happens, I'll go in at the 3 hour mark- rub her back, say her name softly. If she is just surface sleeping she'll roll over and be ready to get up.

I'm sure a lot of people will disagree but I wake DD if she hits 3.5 hours and try to get to back to her usual schedule. It's almost never happened though.

(I'm asking about SAHMs since I'm guessing there's more flexibility to adjust the schedule, versus if LO goes to daycare or other childcare provider).

LO had a terrible night, and I ended up getting him out of the crib at 6AM instead of his typical 7 or 8AM wakeup. He usually takes a long 2.5 - 3 hour morning nap. Should I let him nap longer if he wants to? 4 hour seems super long (of course there's no guarantee that he'll sleep that long, but we're already at 2.5 hours now) Otherwise if I get him up after his usual 3 hours, this would set us an hour earlier for everything, and I don't know how to adjust the rest of his day!

What do you ladies do in this case?
