Going out, for sure. Even just to go for a walk. That age is very trying because they NEED to be entertained.

@duckduckkristen: @pastemoo: i seriously have to move from floor to floor every 30 minutes otherwise she just whines, whines, and whines! I let her wander, play in the kitchen, destroy the living room, etc. but if we don't go out, she just goes stir crazy from boredom!

For us, it's usually two 3 hour periods and one 4 hour period of time. In the morning, breakfast and getting dressed/ready takes up at least an hour. Then we have playtime, reading books, songs, etc... the middle of the day, we usually go somewhere (park, errands, libraryn etc...) and then have lunch, which takes up all of that time. In the afternoon, we might go somewhere (a walk, swimming, etc...) and then it's dinner time, bath, and bed, which takes at least 1.5 hours.

we usually have a class or play date almost every day, to stay occupied, and we run a lot of "contrived" errands....nothing too crucial, but always something as an excuse to get out of the house... plus random play and floor time at home to hopefully tire him out for good long naps

We went out twice a day, every day. Usually once in the morning for an errand (babies r us, grocery store, etc) and a playdate or playgroup or class in the afternoon.

We have play dates a few times a month, story time at the library twice a month, and we start classes at the little gym this week. When we are at home LO mostly crawls all over the house exploring stuff on his own, but we also read books, and he likes to watch me cook. I let him watch Sesame Street for about 20 minutes a day. When he gets bored I just take him to a different room. Now that it is getting warm we will start going for walks again!

Books and blocks for that age were great indoor activities! Ten months is sometimes a challenging age for activities, because a lot of them are aimed at toddlers and preschoolers (it gets easier to keep them occupied after 1 year and really easy at 2 years!).

I agree, going out kills lots of time. I try to get out at least once a day, but on the days I can't, it seems that both of us get bored! Our usual at-home activities are reading books, playing with her activity cube and learning table, stacking and knocking over blocks, Jumperoo, and eating.

DD is 9 months but we get out a lot of toys, go on walks, I read her books, I sing songs to her, let her discover the house...oh and meals take a long time (30-45 minutes). She usually sits with me and plays with a toy while I clean too. Between all of that and running errands, it doesn't seem like she is awake often! Maybe that's because I have a 3 year-old too and he never sleeps!

Hurmm.. We would go on outings, I'd let her crawl around and explore, play with pots, pans, spatulas, puzzles, balls.. Going out kills a lot of time.

If your babies are in the 10+ months age, how do you keep them entertained at home if they're awake for 3-4 hours?
