I'm thinking about it for when LO is closer to 18 months. As it is most of the day cares in our area only take toddlers that can walk (before that people have nannies). For the time being, we're doing play group 1-2 times a week and that seems to keep him happy, although I might look into another "class" for us soon.

I was working full-time up until we had DS a month ago, so DD has been in daycare since 9 months. Part of our decision in me staying home, though, was an agreement that DD would stay in daycare two days a week, and that DS would join her from an early age (3 months or so). Part of the reason we made this decision is practical (I'm also a full-time grad student, so this gives me two days a week to work on school), but also a part of the reason is simply because DD enjoys it so much. She has some great friends at daycare, and the social interaction (learning to share and play with other kids) has been wonderful for her development. I was never a big fan of daycare of DD actually started attending, but now I think it's an awesome experience, if your LO has the opportunity!

I am a SAHM and we're not considering daycare, even part time. We're busy enough with swimming and playgroups for interaction. I have a sitter that comes once a week for a half day for me to go to appointments. When he turns three, he will go to plat based preschool part time and depending on my work schedule at that time, I will supplement with Montessori preschool activities at home.

I would consider a mom swap though, where I would take care of another LO at my home and vice versa.

I'm not a SAHM, but I know when we were looking at daycare for my son, I was skeptical of the whole 'socialization' piece at his age. He started at 5 months. But even at that age, he did AMAZING with the other kids. He's ahead of the curve verbally since they talk to him all day and play with him. (He's in a mixed daycare - he's the youngest of 5, with the other ranging from 2 to 4 years old).

I never would have thought he would get that much out of daycare at his young age, but he really loves it.

If I were a sahm, I would definitely consider daycare around 15-18 months just like nycalimama. Charlie started daycare at 21 months because that's when the new year started, but we enrolled him when he was 18 months.

Two part-time days sounds perfect to start!

I found that after my LO turned 1 she definitely loved socialization (right around 15-18 months especially)... I think it's definitely not a bad idea for you to consider part-time daycare. Twice a week for a morning or afternoon session sounds great. The "me" time you'll get to do errands, etc will be very valuable to your family as well. It may be tough on him (and you) to separate at first but the daycare should help you transition and you'll both adjust over time. I have put my 1st LO in two different daycares (because we moved) and I really like the structure, routine and socialization they have provided for her. It's definitely not something I can replicate at home on my own!

I think we'll probably wait until she's 3 for part time at preschool. But it might depend if we get another LO before then.... it might be easier if she goes a little early so I'm not taking care of 2 babies all day every day.

We are going to put our daughter in Mother's Day Out. We haven't decided on the exact age but probably not until she is closer to two.

I'm a SAHM too and we are thinking of doing something like that too. Or I've heard of something called "mothers day out" where you drop off your LO for a few hours once or twice a week.

I think it would help LO become more socialized as well as help her to learn how to listen to other adults, and learn a bit of independence.

She's only 5 months and I probably won't think about it until she is at least a year old but maybe closer to a year and a half.

We were thinking about putting LO in a korean daycare program (1/2 day) when she's 2 years old. LO's 1 and I can't imagine putting her in a program right now. Haven't decided though.

For moms who are stay at home, have you thought of putting your LO in daycare a few days a week for the social interaction? DH and I were thinking about putting LO two days a week but not until he turned 1 yr old. I've recently noticed that he is beginning to be more clingy to me (which I secretly love) but know I don't want it to get worse.

So the idea is we put him in daycare two days a week for the socialization and the bonus is that I get a day off to catch up on chores, errands, or shopping woo hoo.

I'm still not sure if we are going to go ahead with this plan so I wanted to see if there were any other mothers out there who are doing this?
