I'd been wanting to transition to freelancing for a while, I just kept working to get my year of mat leave! So it was great to have a good excuse to shake things up.

DH and I are working on transitioning to my staying at home once the baby arrives in November. The thought of quitting has gotten a lot easier as my office morale has been steadily decreasing and I'm not enjoying my job as much as I once was.

It wasn't a hard decsion, but it took a little while to get the logistics right. I wanted to be at home from the moment we had DD, but it took until she was 21 months to actually work it out because I kept extending my timeline every time my boss asked; not something I recommend. :/ Anyway, I don't plan on being home full time for very long. I'll only be home for a couple years before going back part-time.

@autumnlove: That's awesome your job lets you set that kind of schedule!! Do you mind sharing what you do and how you proposed the new work schedule to your boss/employer?

I quit work while I was pregnant because I worked for crazy people. Unfortunately they were new when I decided to work for them or I would have found out that 3/4 of people they hire leave them within the first couple months and the ones that don't are foreigners who have visa issues to work out before they leave them....not exaggerating.

So it was not a hard decision. I think it would have been much harder to leave if I didn't work for crazy people but for me I think it would have been the wrong decision to stay because it's not a line of work that made me feel like a very complete person.

I always knew I'd be a SAHM, but it was really strange to suddenly not be going into work every day.

Now you couldn't pay me to go back to a 9-5 job.

I do work from home, though, in my studio.

I felt bad quitting because I knew how it would make some of my coworkers feel, but it was the right thing for our family and I was so happy to not have to answer to anyone anymore because they were really starting to make me feel really unhappy.

Well, if I had to do it over again, I would still choose to stay home. I worked for a long time (14 years) so I was established in my career and enjoyed what I did. My priorities changed and I am glad that I was able to be in the position to even make the decision. I can't imagine being in a situation where I had no choice in the matter, whether it be to stay home or go back to work.

I love my job and I've been there a long time so I feel stuck right now! I start working from home 3 days/work at office 2 days next week. I figure I should at least try that before I quit!

@artbee: I worked in the Senate. I do think it was worthwhile work, and I really respect the Senator I worked for, but it just was not the greatest fit for me.

@sandy: I really didn't make that much anyway. At the time DH owed his dad some money so he just gave my rent check to his dad.... so really it wasn't a huge deal.

I don't miss working but I do miss having the extra money! I love staying at home with LO but sometimes I wish I could just work for a few months so we could have the extra moolah :)

I feel like it would be do hard to have a full time job and take care of the house and baby...it makes life so much easier now that I stay at home and can take care of LO and all the chores/errands during the week.

I actually quit my job way before LO came due to health reasons. But it was hard for me to leave. I loved my clients, I loved my coworkers, but I just didn't love the stress that came with it.

It was also hard because it was weird for me not to bring in money and help DH with the bills. Especially because he was my fiance then, we weren't married yet. But now that LO's here I have no regrets- I'm def doing my part taking care of her all day!
