Thanks for the ideas ladies!

Now that the weather is starting to break (we live in the NE) and B is getting more mobile I think it will be easier to find things to keep him occupied. Right now we have:

Monday- Playgroup with local moms
Tuesday- My Gym class
Weds- DH wants to do a 6 week swim class with B in the mornings (haven't signed up yet)
Thursday- Storytime at the library

We bought a membership to the zoo this week so I'm hoping to go once a week to get out. B loves being outside so I'm looking forward to trips to the park, bubble parties on the porch, crawling in the grass, long walks in the neighborhood, and buying him a swing for the porch.

I need to find more indoor activities for bad weather. Our days are loooonnnnngggg when we are stuck inside!

ETA: B is 9 months old

I second the idea of a membership somewhere, especially since you don't feel like you have to get your money's worth if you pay by the visit. You can pop in and out and there are often special hours and events for those with annual passes.

Nature Centers are abundant in my area, I really had no idea before I started looking around for things to do.

My daughter is 10.5 months old and naps twice a day. Our days look like this:

6-7 wake up (she is usually up by 7 at the latest, but if not I wake her then)
nurse & snuggles
breakfast
play time (usually we read books, and then she plays by herself in her room while I drink my coffee or clean up a bit)

Nap time (2 hours after wake up)

After nap, we usually try to get out. We haven't for a week because she was sick and now we're snowed in....ah!

Our weekly rhythm is this:
Monday- Groceries
Tuesday- walk or play date or we go to a music group/visit a friend about an hour away (if this is the case, she naps in the car on the way there)
Wednesday- story time
Thursday- playgroup at the community center (usually)
Friday- Waldorf school

After our outing/activity we have lunch around noon, and then its time for nap again

After nap until dinner we either go for a walk or a run (I do this immediately after she wakes up so that she doesn't fall asleep again and ruin bedtime) and play. I either wear her or she empties out the Tupperware cabinet while I cook dinner.

6:00 dinner, then bath, then naked play time, then bedtime

If we can't find an activity we sometimes go to the fabric store, and she gets to feel all the fabric on the bolt while I browse. I also like to check out the consignment shop occasionally. We also go check out different libraries in neighboring towns. They often have fun play spaces that she can explore to mix it up.

If we are bored or running out of activities to do, here are some of my go-tos for in the house:
-Water play: I fill up a heavy pot (cast iron dutch oven) with a couple inches of water, put it on a towel, and give her some kitchen utensils / cups/ whatever to play with

-Mail: She will spend a solid 10-15 minutes looking at catalogs with pictures of people in them and tearing them up.

-The Laundry game: She takes everything out of the clean laundry basket, and plays with it while I fold it and tell her what I'm folding (is this daddy's tiny shirt? NO! Its baby's tiny shirt! etc., etc.)

-Cleaning! I put her on my back and sing songs and dance while we clean. She usually really enjoys this (except when I vacuum. She's terrified of the vacuum).

-Random new "toys"- a favorite is metal canning jar rings inside an old tissue box. Take them out, put them in. Metal spoons in a Tupperware container. Anything in a bag (a bunch of magazines, etc). Shredding paper towels. Paper bags.

I am trying to get her to more activities with other babies, but a lot of that is just going to have to wait until she is on one nap a day. The story time usually works well, but this week she slept through it. Morning nap is tough- when she drops it we will be able to get out and around kids a lot more.
In the summer we will have a parking pass at the local beaches (we live on a lake), a membership at a local sustainability research farm (they have a kids' farm with lots of animals and activities), and our community garden plot. And playgrounds!

@rahlyrah: I am the same way as you- the weather hasn't been nice for a while so many days are rotating between her play mat, jumperoo, blanket on the tub with toys, read books, high chair... When we both start getting really bored I do exercises with her which she likes and must be good for me- I lay on my back and do chest presses with her and then sit her on my stomach and do crunches. She thinks it's hysterical.

We have one weekly play date that we do, but it's really hard to schedule much when her naps are so unpredictable. There are a few free activities in my neighborhood- story hour at the library, music class, but they are in the morning when C is usually napping.

In addition to things that others have already said, we have memberships to the zoo and children's museum, which my daughter (29 months) loves. We go to one at least once a week. We started going to children's museum when she was 6 months (ours has a great area for babies and toddlers), and she got interested in the zoo at around 12 months.

I think it's easier on one nap! We leave the house every day, or have a playdate and bring someone over.

His latest favorite activity is carrying golfballs and putting them in/out of lidded containers, like washed out big yogurt cups and oat containers.

I do think it's easier when they're older. DS is 17 months and we get out of the house every morning.

Mon: My Gym free play and run errands
Tue: My Gym class
Wed: Barnes and noble story time (but lately my gma has been watching him wed mornings)
Thur: usually go to the park. We have a park walking distance so I usually take the dog with us.
Fri: library story time

I'm somewhat new to staying home so I'm trying to meet other moms that I can do play dates with. Meeting a mom I met at my gym tomorrow at the park! Yay!

We keep busy in the morning. Come home and have lunch then DS goes down for his nap between 12-1. DH is home by 4 pm so the days seem to to by fast!

Oh yay! It's like you read my mind with this thread!

LO just turned 1 and we go to stroller strides (mommy exercise group) daily (M-F) and then play afterwards with all the other babies/tots at the park. Then M-W I will usually have lunch, go walk around somewhere with my good friend and her daughter (mall, TJ Maxx, basically wherever we need to do errands)

We are usually home in the afternoons. I will let LO crawl around outside in the backyard and get dirty (we live in SoCal so weather is good right now). We will read and sing and play.

I want to start finding more structured activities....maybe a class? We did a music class when she was 6 months but I don't think she got that much out of it.

LO is only 4.5 months old but she is already getting bored with me & our toys. She really enjoyed going to baby story time at the library - I wish they had it more often! Now that the weather is nicer I try to take her outside at least once a day - even if it's just laying her on a towel in the yard for tummy time.

Miss A is seventeen months old and we try to get out and away from the house most days of the week! Here's what our week looks like:

Monday - morning playgroup (local) and afternoon grocery shopping
Tuesday - morning playgroup in town
Wednesday - Morning playgroup (local)
Thursday - home day to do housework!
Friday - Morning music session in town (includes snack time and free play)

We don't really know too many people in our new town so we don't really go on playdates but we have met some really lovely families in our neighbourhood so hopefully they'll come :-)

I try to get out and walk our dog most days of the week, we also have swings nearby so we go there most days too. The library is great for LO (she loves pulling the books off the shelves!) and we also go to a really cool park in town if the weather is nice.

DH gets home from work between 1530 and 1600, so by the time we've been out all morning and LO is napping anywhere between 1200 and 1500, the days goes by pretty fast!

Love this. C is 21 months and we are also out and about most of the time. Play dates, gym day care, music and gymnastics class. In the winter, we will sack up and pay to go to indoor "play spaces" otherwise when it is nice out, we will go to the park or take a walk in the neighborhood. At home, we do art stuff (crayons, markers, painting, dot art) play with cars and balls and blocks and eat A LOT (growing boy...). We also jump on the bed a lot and play excessive amounts of "chase".

It gets easier to entertain them as they get older! LO is 22 months. We do LOTS of play dates! Mondays are for errands, regular swaps with two other moms every Tuesday, another playgroup on Wednesday, and our town's parenting group has an open playgroup every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. When the weather is nice we go to various parks, have picnics at the Arboretum, go to the pool.... There's always someone that's willing to get out of the house with us.

As far as home activities, coloring and bubbles are a hit. As is just walking around the yard collecting rocks.

Do you ever have days where you feel like you have rotated through every toy/activity in the house and then you look at the clock and realize it is only 10 am?! I do!

I thought it could be fun to start a thread with some of our favorite activities to do with LO during the day. They can be at home, outside, or a paid activity that we love. That way, we can bounce ideas off each other and get some inspiration on days where we feel like all of our options are exhausted.

If you don't mind sharing, include LO's age as well :)
