17 months, then I went back part-time for 6 months. After that I went back to college full-time for a year and now I work full-time.

I was, honestly, super happy to go back to work. I'm not cut out for being a SAHM. I knew I wasn't happy, but I didn't realize just how unhappy I was until I started working again.

My part-time job kind of fell into my lap. A friend saw a Facebook post or something and sent it to me, I emailed my resume and the guy called me and hired me on the spot the same day. My full-time job I have now also found me. The owner of the company found my resume on Indeed and contacted me.

I've made a couple attempts to go back but because I was very young having my first haven't been able to get the "full package" so to speak- decent hours, decent pay, in a field I want to be in. I guess that is asking a lot given the job market here is still not great, but now I'm taking classes and it appears that the thing that's going to work out is working for family in the same field. :)

I SAH for 6 months. Initially, I was trying it out bc that was my dream at the time. But I found it to be isolating and I missed the accolades of being in the work force. I also hated feeling like I didn't have my own money, because I work in a well paying field, and I was used to pretty much buying whatever I wanted. Once I quit working, I felt guilty buying anything outside of necessity.

I started looking around 5.5 months of being a SAH. I lucked out SO HARD and got the best job I've ever had within 2 weeks. I've been promoted several times since then, and I never doubt being a WOHM. I love that I can still have my sense of self and accomplishment, and my girls are well taken care of with a nanny, and on the weekends, we can spend quality time together pretty much doing whatever we want, because we have a maid so I don't spend my time cleaning. I do think SAH is for some people, and that's perfect for their family. It's just not for me. I love being successful AND being an awesome mom. We both work hard, and that allows us to play hard with our girls and not have a lot of financial boundaries, and I realized that I like that much better than being a SAHM.

20 months. I actively looked. It was actually 11 months of actively looking before I found the right job (I was dead set on a place that let me work "mom hours" which is really hard to find in my field).

My situation was kinda different. I got laid off while pregnant and wasn't looking because I didn't think anyone would hire a pregnant mother. But I got apprroached for a temp position for the summer that I ended up taking. Then that ended right before my due date. I stayed home for regular "leave" time and started actively looking. I was kinda PT until I found a full time position.

I really don't think SAH is for me long term! I'm glad to be back at work full time!

I was home for a little over 2 years. I left the work force because we moved cross country for my husbands surgery fellowship. Our older was 15m-27m while we were away. When we moved back, I was 20 weeks pregnant so I didn't bother looking for work. When DS2 was 7 months there was a great opportunity for me. I'm a lawyer and My fathers law firm had downsized but was looking for some help. I could work part time, on my own schedule, mostly WFH on my own terms. I said yes. My older son is in preschool some and younger one is with a nanny. Financially I do well, but paying for preschool and a nanny I basically come out -just a bit a head every month. But it doesn't matter. I'm back in the work force. Honestly I didn't realize before going back to work that I was unhappy staying at home. It is a good situation for this season of our lives. I never really planned on being a stay at home mom, it just happened. It was great for the first 1.5 years but I found being home all day with two kids just was too much for me. I am better with some distance from them. I applaud anyone who loves staying home....it just wasn't for me. I say I'll be a great stay at home mom when my kids are in school all day!!

I quit work 3 years ago. I figured I would use the opportunity to find something else that I would prefer to do, going back to school first. On a whim I was browsing through Monster postings and applied to a seasonal position in my field. I got an interview and an offer and if it works out then I would be able to be a regular employee whenever that became an option. I haven't started yet, but I think it's a good opportunity and I"ll probably just stick with my field because of the flexibility.
ETA: shortly after I left I was approached about a couple other opportunities but I wasn't interested at the time.

I was home for 16 months before I went back part time. For my first job going back I knew what I wanted to do, and approached an old intern who I knew had gotten a job with the agency I wanted to work for. She put in a good word for me, and I was over qualified, so they were willing to accommodate my request for part time hours/limited flexibility with hours.

I worked there for about a year, and then left to do private practice part time (I'm a therapist, two days a week). I plan to drop to one day a week after our second baby is born, and will likely stay at one day a week for awhile since we are planning to have at least a third child.
At this point I'm mostly working to keep my resume updated, maintain professional contacts, and keep my foot in the door a little bit. I have to do training hours to keep my licenses current. And one or two days a week is pretty sweet.
I am currently tailoring my training hours toward adolescent and college aged clients, because when I return to work full time (when my kids are in school) I'd like to get a job in a school or college.

I started looking for a job about 9 months after I officially quit (but I had briefly returned to work after my mat leave, LO was more like 16 mo old).

I actively applied to positions and interviewed with multiple companies before I found my position.

About 8.5 months. I wanted to go part time at 3 months but my (FT) position at the time couldn't be made into a part time one. I was approached by someone else at the same company and offered a part time, WFH during the hours I choose, making more money position  I would have been nuts to turn it down!! It's a great balance.

How long were you a SAHM before you went back to work? How did you find your next position? Did you look actively, get recruited, etc?

I just became a SAHM so I am not planning on reentering the workforce for a couple of years but I think about it all the time. I need to update my resume before I forget details from my last job!
