It will give me a little bit of time alone with the new baby and will give lo some play time with other kids. I dont think it is necessary to be in preschool until 3.5 or 4 but i think it will be good for all of us. We sent him two mornings/week from 9a-12p starting at 13 months. We'll start doing the 'drop off' story times around 2.5/3 too. Her birthday is in October so she was 22 months when school started (early September). It was 2x/week from 9-11:15 so it wasn't long, but just enough to get her out of the house and interacting with kids. We made a lot of friends and had lots of play dates which was nice!</p> <p>We toured the school in February and enrolled her in may, I think. Her class is for 2.5-4 year olds. Again, I think it will be good for her to have her own thing apart from me especially when the baby arrives. She'll go 3 days a week for 3 hours a day. </p> <p>I think it's very discretionary whether you put a young toddler in any "school" program before pre-K. I felt like it would be good for my LO and she is very verbal, loves circle time, sits well for story time, follows directions well, etc. She gets a ton of socialization during the week but not apart from me so I felt that was good for her to learn to follow directions from other adults. They run half day and are two days a week. When they turn 3, you can increase the number of days in the week. Not just classes you attend with them, but something where you drop them off and pick them up. </p> <p>DH asked me the other day if we need to get C on a waiting list for preschool and I was like.... um, I hope not? (She is almost one). But then of course I started to think about when I would want her to start in some kind of part time school program. 3 seems like a good age, or possibly two, but since she has a summer birthday, she will have just turned 2 (or 3) in the Sept. that she would start. </p> <p>Not sure if this should go under SAHP or School-aged kids, since kids who have nannies probably have similar schedules. I just figured if a LO is in daycare they already have the school experience. Feel free to move to another board. </p>
