My kids are the same age. They love going to the beach but I don’t think they would get it. I think they’d prefer toys. In our house Santa gives a gift they want but it’s not the biggest. As parents we want credit for that! I would have one of their smaller requested toys wrapped and tell them Santa knew he had to drop it off early because of the trip since Santa knows everything!

@PinkElephant: I missed the 4 y.o! Hey if the kids are already excited then the Santa delivery will be extra special. Sunglasses, flip flops, kinetic sand and sand pail stuff, island-y tree ornament, beach towels, postcard written from the island residents telling them they are excited about the visit, blow up beach balls eveyone can play with. Is there a special drink or food or export the island is known for that you can give them?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I can't change the day Santa comes - it's sponsored by our town. But it's exactly one week before our trip, which I think is an appropriate period of anticipation for the 4 and 6 year old. The two year old definitely won't care about anything, she will just get excited if her sisters do! :)

The 4 year old saw a picture of a beach when I was researching the trip and said she wanted to go there, and is pretty bright, so if we told her we were going to the beach she saw, she'd definitely care. But yeah...I'm not sure what to put in a box that will make the connection make sense for them, if you know what I mean!

@MamaBear87: Agreed on Santa not deserving all the credit for the best-thought-out gifts (and on older kids in particular being smart enough to question why there's a variance in what children receive from Santa) - I also feel like it's weird for Santa to gift something intangible like a trip, since my kids didn't buy my idea last year that maybe with SOOOO many toys to make, Santa might shop for some of them on Amazon :silly: DH thinks it's a terrible idea anyway, so I will probably just let him bring them a stupid LOL doll ball or something, and surprise them with the trip news at a family dinner.

@Mamaof2: Yeah as much as I love it I just don't think it would work out the way I pictured it, haha. I envision a lot of confusion. I'll probably do as you say and choose one of their smaller gifts or two that could be used on the plane for Santa to bring.

@Mrs. Champagne: They were already going to get new dance backpacks for Christmas; maybe I'll see if those would be big enough to fit their plane stuff and if so, have Santa bring those.

I’d love to go to the Caribbean, but I’m not sure a 2 or 6 yr old would really care. While I like the Santa escort I don’t think the trip reveal is going to garner as much excitement as you like. Can Santa come closer to trip day and can he come bearing gifts or clues the 6 year old could identify and the 2 year old just plays with?

Our rule is Santa gives small gifts. Clothes, small toy, books etc. This way if our kids ever have friends who don't get awesome things from Santa they don't wonder why they get fancier things than friends and the friends don't feel like Santa loves them less
And I don't want Santa to get the glory for awesome presents! So I would have them get a toy from Santa and the big gift from mom and dad

I just booked a last minute tropical vacation for our family (DDs ages 2, 4, and 6) the week before Christmas. Currently the girls don't know, and I think they're going to be sooo excited.

The week before our trip, I've signed up for our local police force to accompany Santa to our house in a police cruiser and deliver a present to each of my girls (provided by me). I thought, as an adult, how cool it would be to wrap up something beachy and a pretend plane ticket, and tell them about the trip this way. My husband did this for me one Christmas pre-kids...he gifted me a suitcase, and inside were tickets for a New Year's trip! However, I'm not sure the kids would really understand, and I'd have for them to be disappointed that they didn't get a toy from Santa.

What do you think? Is this a fun "reveal", or should I just wrap up a toy for Santa to bring, and think of another creative way to tell them they're going to the Caribbean?
