It was my color and cute. But alas not mine. I did buy LO an inexpensive present she really wanted. We rarely buy things for her on the spot like that so as to not spoil and decrease nagging but it felt right. Waiting for her to wake up to play with it now and I am counting down the days...less than a month until I pay off my car loan! Since last post, I have messed up twice with impulse purchases that could have waited. Like if my weekly budget for groceries is $100 but I spent $140, I think well it's not so bad...that's $20 a day (based off of $140). That's only $2 a meal + $0.67 for snacks per person in a 3 person family. Sometimes it helps me save too! Like when I go out to eat and spend $40......I think there goes 2 days worth of groceries. Or if we don't eat the remaining carrots and let it go bad. Ahh...there goes the value of two of our meals. We are so excited at the prospect of having no mortgage before LO goes to college. It had really never occurred to me that I could be without a mortgage in my 40s and it is so exciting. That's super exciting about your car too. We didn't have car loans and it was fabulous. We just got DH a new car and it was so tempting for us to take the shortest possible loan and pay it off asap, but it didn't make sense for us. We have so much student loan debt and relatively high interest rates, so the car debt is much cheaper as these thing go. We refinanced to a 15 year a few years ago so we are quite happily anticipating getting everything paid off before LO goes off to college. </p> <p>The decision to pay our cars in cash is a personal goal to help us stay on track and get real with finances. Knowing how to spend below my mean lead me to being honest about my means, abilities, time and priorities. That realization has helped me make good, yet non-traditional decisions. Overcoming the temptations to spend anyway (because I could if I wanted to...) is another story. Still strengthening that muscle. I've been giving myself too much leeway lately instead of aggressively saving money and paying down debt. I accumulated too much debt while I was in nursing school because living on one income was too difficult for us.<br /> Plus, we want to buy a house and really need to save for that. We recently bought a new car because we've been sharing one car for the last five years and have spent over $1500 in repairs in the past 8 months so it was time.<br /> Now, with bebe dos on the way - we need to get serious about finances.
