I love the idea of keeping some things for future grandkids. :) Remember that the less items there are, the more special they will feel. So I would encourage instead of keeping ALL Lego pieces, for example, pick some of the favorite mini figures and most versatile/clean/sturdy bricks and pieces and keep one tub for the future. Same goes for the dinosaurs. A few of the ones in best condition are going to feel more special than a giant collection of mismatched ones! If you have the space it may not feel like an issue, but I think future you would be thankful that you took the time to focus on what’s most memorable to keep!

I’m planning on keeping some things, we have a big empty attic for storage but it isn’t climate controlled. I definitely plan on keeping some of our wooden trains and tracks. We have a lot of Thomas trains before they changed and got cheap/poorly made. They get a ton of play with my kids and I think would stand the test of time. Same with legos, wooden blocks, magnatiles and anything that encourages imaginative play really.

My parents saved a ton... I'd say the fun stuff that they save though were our old dollhouse with accessories, wooden blocks, and the play kitchen with accessories. The play kitchen is big, but they had the room and my dad actually made it out of wood for us. It's great quality and sentimental.

I'd love to save my daughter's Little People, but I'm not sure we'll have the space. Magna tiles is a good idea too.

I'm saving what I can get away with! I have fond memories of playing with my parents'/aunts' toys at my grandparents' homes, and love watching my kids play with my sisters' and my old school Little People sets, among other things.

I'll weed way down on things like Barbie accessories and LOL-type junk, but I think it is so fun to watch multiple generations enjoy toys.

My parents kept some things from when my brother and I were kids - some playmobile stuff, legos, lincoln logs, american girl dolls + a few other dolls. My kids love playing with it when we go to visit. They also kept our giant collection of beanie babies (in that 90s hope that one day they'd be worth something - ha). My girls LOVE playing with those so much.

So I'd say if you have space, I'd keep the stuff you're thinking of! Much as I'm looking forward to weeding out so many of my kids' plastic toys that are taking over our house...there are definitely some of the more classic things that I'm going to hold onto and pack away, especially after seeing how much my kids love playing with that kind of stuff at my parents.

If you have room for it, go for it. I am handing down everything to my nephew/niece, the rest is going to buy nothing other parents.... My parents kept some toys and we can see that the wood toys were way better quality back then than now. So I would keep wood stuff. Legos is a good idea. Some of the sets are already discontinued so if you like a set, keep it. I would really think you should keep what was enjoyed a lot.

We're in the middle of a huge toy purge as my kids have outgrown a ton now that they're older (7&9) and into sports and , let's be honest, video games) so I'm happy to revamp the toy room and gain back space. But then I started to think that maybe I wanted to keep some of them for if I happen to have grandkids in the future. My mom kept toys from when we were little and it is always fun to see my kids, nieces and nephews continue to play with them. Not a ton but we do have storage space.

Things that I'm thinking:

Legos
Magnatiles
Animals from Terra by Battat (my kids were obsessed with these)
Maybe some of their dinosaurs that aren't battery powered

Thinking about more classic toys. Wondering if I'm crazy or just giving into hoarding tendencies? Anyone else?
