I started by cutting out one of the afternoon bottles first. Then I cut out the 2nd afternoon bottle, then I cut out the morning bottle, and finally cut out the night bottle. </p> <p>I started decreasing them one by one every 1-2 weeks, and gave her a straw cup with milk at every meal. The bottle weaning took longer as he refused to drink milk out of a sippy at first. I finally would just give him a sippy of milk at lunch instead of giving him any water or a bottle right before. After a few days he started to drink the milk sippy. I repeated this process for dinner and then eventually for breakfast. He still gets a little milk in a sippy before bed but we're okay with this as he brushes his teeth afterwards. DS gets pumped BM during the day and still nurses first thing in the morning and last thing at night. We tried to do cow's milk in a sippy but BM in a bottle but he wouldn't have any of it. We've resolved to do all milk in a bottle and then once he's done with BM (I'm weaning from the pump) we'll switch to sippy/straw cups. Our biggest issue with the transition was the temperature of the drink. Her formula was always warmer than the refrigerator. We normally used tap water which wasn't necessarily warm just not as cold as the refrigerator. </p> <p>We also didn't want to have a milk association with the bottle. Formula was for bottles and milk was for cups. We had to warm her milk for a few seconds in the microwave for about a week.</p> <p>Honestly, what helped us the MOST was daycare. We had just changed daycares and the kids her age were all off the bottle during the day. Peer pressure is amazing. We started daycare on Wednesday and she took her last bottle on Thursday night. </p> <p>On Friday she wasn't offered her bottle at daycare and we didn't offer it at night time. She fussed some but we didn't look back. I need to really work on transition and have daycare do the same thing. I have 2 cans of formula that I want to be the last two we buy to help transition. I will start gradually giving less and less formula. </p> <p>Thank you everyone, sounds like I'm not the only one struggling with this! I think I'm going to for the next few weeks gradually start mixing in her soy milk with formula to get her off that, and then I will focus on the actual bottle. Took about a week and a half. I did 1/4 milk - 3/4 formula for a couple days, then 1/2 and 1/2 for a couple more days, 3/4 milk - 1/4 formula, then finally to straight milk. I should note that I tried cold turkey and dude was NOT happy, spit it right out! </p> <p>It took longer to wean off the bottle. I often offered him 2 sippys at meals (milk and water) and he slowly started to accept milk out of a sippy. At 14 months, he's just using a bottle at bed time although I suspect he'd be fine with taking it out of a sippy. So I put his formula in a straw sippy instead of a bottle and offered it to him throughout the day. He still gets a nighttime bottle. He's only 11.5 months so we're going to let him keep it for awhile...we'll see how long.</p> <p>We just started the process of switching him to whole milk and we're mixing it with formula. We tried cold turkey first but DD got mega constipated and DS wasn't a fan, so we just did 1/4 then 1/2, then all milk. Took it slow, maybe over 2 weeks.</p> <p>Once they had been on whole milk in bottles for a couple of weeks without issue, we worked on ditching the bottles. I gave milk in a few different types of straw &amp; sippy cups, but just offered with no pressure throughout the day. Once I clued into which cups they liked best, I focused on giving a cup of milk first at normal bottle times. I'd hold them on my lap and help hold the cup if they wanted, and try to get them to drink as much as possible from the cup. Whatever they didn't finish (if more than an oz or 2), I'd put in a bottle and offer afterward. Sometimes they would want the bottle and sometimes not. Within a week, they were done with bottles and there was no fight at all. He's 17 months and we still haven't dropped the nighttime bottle of milk, but are slowly cutting back the amount he gets. We're down to 5oz now. So we went cold turkey and after about 2 weeks of battles everything is good :)</p> <p>Edit... I wanted to mention that my mother looks after LO during the day and she still gives him a bottle for his nap b/c she doesn't like to see him unhappy... He did much better then I anticipated. We did the formula first then worked on bottles. She won't take cold milk from a sippy or straw cup!
