My mental health is waaay better without ultrasounds - the one I had at 18 weeks had me holding my breath for days. I'm much better at going with the flow and assuming all is well without tests and exams. They just make me nervous! This recent round of ultrasounds for potential IUGR has not helped my mental health - much easier when I just assumed everything was great.

@Arden: I think that ultrasounds will always freak pg moms out! I had one yesterday at 34weeks, and even though I felt hiccups in the waiting room, I still get a little nervous that she may not be in there- lol, or something might be wrong. Especially since I hadn't seen her since my 20 week Level II scan. Soooo, I don't think the fear of the ultrasound goes away!

@MrsTiz: That's typical for my birth center, and what I wanted. The birth center requires the anatomy scan because they need to make sure the baby is developing normally and I am still low-risk, or I would have to transfer to a hospital.

I passed on the NT scan, the birth center gave me the option and I decided not to have it. I want to keep ultrasounds and doppler use to a minimum.

I'm not a worrier at all, but pregnancy has made me a crazy person. I think and worry about her all the time. I always feel nervous on the way to the u/s, and can't enjoy it until I see her moving around on the screen.

Totally normal. I felt the same way before my first u/s and again this week when my doctor took a few minutes to find baby's heartbeat with the doppler. I've been trying to work at having faith in my body and my baby....it seems to be helping somewhat, but I think some anxiety is totally normal.

Yup I get nervous before every appointment. Normally I am very relaxed but pregnancy makes me a lot more anxious- definitely the hormones. I still worry about LO but it is nothing compared to when I was pregnant.

I was always a nervous wreck too, thinking about all the what ifs. I also watched way too much Discovery Health (now OWN) and those pregnancy shows didn't help. Take a deep breath, it will be ok!

to an extent it is normal, when you are pregnant you are constantly worried and thinking about everything that could go wrong with the baby and pregnancy. and once they are here you are still worried about everything. try to relax and enjoy it!

Welcome to motherhood :/ You'll never stop worrying about them. It's what Mom's do. I don't think it will be as severe as what you are saying, for the rest of his/her life, but worry is always there. It would be unnatural if it wasn't.

I remember hearing Mom's talk about how excited they were for their U/S and I was excited, but always super nervous until the midwife said everything was ok, then I as able to enjoy seeing or hearing my little guy

I have my first (and only, if everything is normal) ultrasound on Tuesday. Although my pregnancy has been going right on track, completely normal in every way... today I freaked out.

I suddenly got so scared that the ultrasound is going to show something wrong with the baby. I started thinking of everything possible that could go wrong, and I started having a panic attack and couldn't breathe, and burst into tears.

Is this normal pregnancy hormones or have I lost my mind?

I don't feel like myself at all - I'm not this person that cries and worries and freaks out. :(

Someone tell me this goes away and you don't stay crazy forever...?
