I had 2 zpacks early in my pregnancy with no adverse effects. I'm also allergic to other medications and both my general doc and my ob were fine with me taking it. In my case, if I don't take the antibotics I'm more than likely going to end up with pneumonia so taking the drugs was a better choice.

For me it comes down to the fact that I trust my doctors and their experience so I was okay with taking the medication in the way they prescribed.

@travelingbrit: I don't have any advice regarding being pregnant and taking the meds but I am the same way with taking new medications that I've never taken before. I also have had allergic reactions to amoxicilian and an another drug... but I've taken the Z pack before and didn't have any issues..... What I do when I take a new med, I take the medicine when DH or someone is around in case I have a reaction....

@travelingbrit: call your doc and verify it's ok to take the z pack while breastfeeding. If so, go for it! You need to get better and you can't take care of your LO if your miserable.

It was my OB that prescribed them. I'm nervous because I've never taken them before. I have had allergic reactions in the past with amoxicillin and doxycycline...so I haven't really had much success in the past.

@mrsjacks thanks so much for the input. I think I will use the albuterol and wait on the antibiotics. The albuterol used to clear up episodes like these before pregnancy...so hopefully that might fix It on it's own.

I personally think suffering with an illness is far more detrimental to you and your baby than taking a studied, and found to be safe medication!

Albuterol should not have any adverse effects. I had severe asthma my entire pregnancy and took albuterol most days.

I gutted out the whole pregnancy without antibiotics and probably suffered unnecessarily, but my doc ok'd me to take certain antibiotics.

Did your primary care doc prescribe the z pack or did your OB? I personally probably wouldn't be comfortable taking a drug I've never taken before whole pregnant. If you have a bacterial infection you need to get it cleared up because that can be more harmful to the baby than the drugs. But if I were you I would call and ask for an antibiotic you have used before with success.

I have been super sick for the past 10 days. I thought I was getting better but it seems to have taken a turn for the worst.

When my SO came home and heard my coughing ad wheezing he insisted on calling my doc.

Anyway, the doc has prescribed me a z-pack and told me to use my albuterol inhaler if necessary.

I really really don't want to take anything, as i am afraid of hurting the baby. I'm just afraid if I don't take anything I might end up at the emergency room.

Can anyone provide some reassurance that I should take the meds? I've never taken a z pack before and I'm scared.
