So with my first pregnancy, I didn't see an OB before I had a major bleeding episode. I'll never know if it was a twin m/c or an extremely large SCH, but the doctor I saw after I had the bleeding did put me on prometrium to stop the bleeding and it really did work. They dx'ed me in the ER with a threatened miscarriage/SCH. I had bi-weekly u/s's until about 18 weeks and everything was normal thereafter.

I had an SCH with bleeding, and on an ultrasound they could see blood in the uterus. My RE did not release me to a regular OB after the 6 week ultrasound, which is their norm, because of the SCH. I was put on modified bed rest, but the pregnancy ultimately ended in loss. There are many, many cases though where women with an SCH go on to have a completely health pregnancy.

In reading a fair amount about it, my sense is that sometimes an SCH can cause a miscarriage directly - especially if it's quite large or located in a specific place - but often the reason it's associated with an increased risk of loss is because they can also be caused by genetic abnormalities (though they are also often present in healthy pregnancies!). In my case, they found chromosomal abnormalities when they tested the tissue, which likely led to an abnormal placenta and hence the SCH. It was a relief to know that despite the bed rest and all that, there was really nothing I could have done.

I had an SCH and my RE suggested to up my PIO injections from 1 ml to 1.5 ml twice a day. I had some brown spotting so not actually bleeding. I had some additional complications like my water breaking at 28 weeks and went on textbook case of 6 weeks on hospital bedrest and delivered my twins at 34 weeks.

Sending her positive thoughts and hope everything is ok.

I would research placental lakes. They are scary, but often harmless. I'm assuming this is what he's mentioning. I had one (along with other scary stuff so this was the least of my worries, lol) - feel free to wall me with any questions!

This website explains it. Later in pregnancy it's not a big deal, but it looks like early in pregnancy it can be indicative of a problem:

My best friend is pregnant with her second child. This is also her second IVF baby. She has been seeing her RE for weekly ultrasounds, and has been bleeding heavily from the beginning. This is very similar to her first pregnancy, she was always convinced she lost the baby because there was so much bleeding.
She has a SCH again this time, diagnosed at her six week ultrasound. Last week at seven weeks the doctor said he didn't see any bleeding and told her that she could be released to her normal OB. She wasn't ready yet, so went back again this week and had another ultrasound. The doctor seemed a little more concerned this time saying that he didn't see any bleeding in the canal but thought it might be coming from the placenta. She's confused as to what this means and is now more scared than ever. Any insight?
