I have heard of this, it's called "wake to sleep" and I seriously considered it to address my son's 5 am wakeups.

The Baby Whisperer has all kinds of information on it.

@Foodnerd81: @raintreebee: @BabyTsMom: I know the idea sounds bizarre! But the thought is that if you wake them up before they were already going to wake up, then you "reset" their clock slowly. Supposedly it works, though it wouldn't solve the problem of falling asleep by himself for naps and nighttime. His wakings are pretty consistent right now, and at 3-4/night :P

We're still thinking about this one, but I don't like any of the other options. CIO isn't for us, and the slowing taking sleep props away sounds like gamboling to me.

Never heard of it, but the thought makes me cringe! I also could never do dream feeds for the same reason. What if it backfires and you can't soothe them back down? Could it be teething or milestones that are disrupting his sleep lately?

No idea for babies, but I do that with my toddler. If he skips a nap, he is more likely to have a night terror, so I wake him up a bit before we go to bed. It's supposed to help reset them.

I have never tried it, but I have read about people doing it for naps to extend the nap and having success. But, I would never wake up my baby at night....haha. I would just think like, oh what if they weren't going to wake up, but I woke them and now they are up and I can't resettle her? If your baby was previously a decent sleeper prior to the regression, perhaps once it passes they will go back to what they were doing before. We finally did CIO for MOTN wake ups around 10 months, so I don't have any other advice, but good luck:)

In general, I'm not a fan of interrupting sleep since you may be waking them from an important part of the sleep cycle. That's why I never did dream feeds. Wish I had advice for you. We did CIO at 9 months to sleep through the night.

@Mrs.Someone: to be honest, that sounds awful to me! But my LO could be really hard to south back to sleep so the idea of waking her only to try to get her back to sleep doesn't make sense to me. Nothing really worked to cut down the motn wake ups for us but time. :( She started sttn at 9 months on her own (but we did previously do CIO for falling asleep- it just did not work for motn).

We're having a rough time with what could be the 9mo sleep regression. Baby is waking up at least 4x/night. I'm not OK with CIO, but I found a new method called "Scheduled Awakenings". The idea is you wake the baby a half hour before he normally wakes up, and soothe him back to sleep. Then after a few days, start moving that time back until he sleeps through it. Has anyone tried something like this?
