@MamaG: oh ok thats similar to me then. I was on ice chips before my first since I was being induced. then once that failed they did the c-section in the evening and i was able to have ice chips after. i wasnt allowed food until the next morning.

@Mrsbells: I wasn't allowed to eat after my first and I don't think I would have been allowed after my second either. In both cases I was on ice chips for a certain amount of time, then liquids and then allowed food.

@Mrsbells: Fluids and monitoring. I specifically remember being monitored for blood pressure. In hindsight it seems a bit silly since if my blood pressure was high they would want to take the baby regardless. They also do all the prep, like make sure they have the IV in, make sure you're not wearing jewelry.

Oh! And I had to have bloodwork redone. They did some pre-op blood the day before and put a wristband on me. No one told me to leave it on, so I didn't. Well it had all my blood typing info attached apparently or a bar code to it, so it all had to be redone. They were sort of cranky with me, but darnit, no one told me to not cut the bracelet off!!!

And forms, there's always forms to do.

First csec was scheduled for 8am. They told me to stop eating at midnight the night before. I DID have a small sip of water in the morning, but that was it. I was fine.

DS2, I ended up having an emergency csec. I had eaten at 3:30pm. I had him around 10pm. I threw up afterwards, but it was only once and then I was fine.

I had a c-section scheduled for around 11 am and was told to fast (all food and liquids) starting the night before (can’t remember if it was 10 pm or midnight or what time exactly). My section was eventually pushed back to almost 6 pm due to emergencies and I was freaking STARVING by that point. LO was *pissed* when she was born, and pretty sure it was because she was hangry too, just like me :silly:

I could, and did, eat immediately after my c-section and it was so glorious.

@Mrsbells: The two hour period is mostly just so they can give you a bag or two of fluid to make sure you're hydrated. You check in, get changed, get the IV started, drink a very disgusting but very small drink (it's like a shot), and then mostly wait.

@Mrsbells: yes, I arrived 2 hours before. Our hospital has you call to see if they are on schedule. I called, they were and when we got there (10 minutes later) they were behind!! I was really worried about being hungry but wasn't. I was thirsty until the IV started, and then I could have waited hours because I was pretty comfortable! Good luck

I was told to start fasting 8 hours before surgery. My c section was scheduled at 5pm so fasting from midnight would have been a loooong time. However, there were a bunch of emergencies once I got there and I didn't end up having the baby until 11:30pm! I was starving. Someone in triage was eating McDonald's and I don't even like McDonald's but I was ready to go rip it out of their hands! :silly:

I had a noon surgery and was told to start fasting from midnight the night before. I was pretty anxious in the morning when I woke up so I wasn't too hungry. I think I had something protein heavy the night before to keep my hunger at bay.

Not eating prior to the C-section wasn't that bad. Mine was slated for 2:30 pm. I did drink water not realizing fasting meant no water too. If anything get your doctor to leave orders that you can eat afterwards. I was so pissed all I could have after was ice chips, which turns into water if you let it melt. Water would have been too easy I guess. When my doctor came to check on me a day later she asked if I ate anything. Grrr!

Yup, I had a noon c-section and had to fast starting at midnight. Up until my son was born I was really focused on being STARVING (I think to cope with the nerves), but once he was there and I was in recovery I had totally forgotten I was so hungry.

One thing that did happen was the lunch place shut down by the time I got to my official room (my hospital has the golden hour). I was really glad I had some snacks in my bag and once my parents got there I sent my husband out to get me food immediately.

I should add, for whatever reason I had a reaction the second time to the anesthesia that resulted in my being very nauseated if I got anywhere close to upright for about 18 hours afterwards. I didn't get to eat at all on the day of delivery and post surgery I was happy not to eat because of the nausea.

Yes. I had a planned repeat and it was scheduled for relatively early in the AM (10'ish) with an arrival at the hospital 2 hours prior. Unfortunately my OB was delayed in an earlier surgery and I didn't get to have my surgery until several hours later. I was just hangry! But mostly the nerves of having surgery and meeting our baby and the stress that comes with being in a hospital helped to derail my hunger.

My csection for LO 3 was at noon and I was able to eat around 5pm.

Next month I will have having c-section number 2. Last time was 4 years ago and wasnt planned or scheduled. This time it is scheduled for a few days before my due date. I was told to arrive by noon and the c-section is scheduled for a couple hours after that. I had initially hoped for a morning time slot to limit how long I would be fasting for. If you have an afternoon scheduled c-section did you have to fast from midnight before and how did you cope?
last time my c-section was in the evening and i hadnt been allowed any food from midnight before! I was so hungry :bummed:
