@Jess1483: Ohh, thank you for the insight in that. The next Scholastic order that comes around, I'll order again. Both of our kids love books, so a ton of books in our house is awesome by me.

@cascademom: The teacher earns bonus points, which they can spend both on books in the magazine, as well as on a separate "bonus catalog" that has lots of great supplies for the classroom. They are quite generous. Teachers order in bundles (all students at one time) so that they earn more bonus points for larger orders.

I love Scholastic book orders. I've ordered twice since LO #1's been big enough for them. I think I spent about $60 or so and got something like 15-20 books in the bundles. There's a bunch of awarded books they offer cheaply too. Half of my son's book collection is from my mom's teacher stash which is largely Scholastic. 20 year old books are still fun to read to my 4 year old.

LO #1 brought them home and saw all of them, so no surprises there. I order not only for the quality of the books, but to support his classroom. I don't quite know how it works, but ordering is good for his classroom as well.

At our daycare they get put in plastic bags in their cubbies, so they don't see them. I used it to bulk up our Christmas collection so I could do the book Advent calendar, we got 10 Christmas books for $20.

@Corduroy: as a parent, I like it because the prices are great, they tend to have some solid choices (there's crap, too, but also good quality kids' books), and it's easy. We ordered some Mo Willem books this time that hardcover in store would be $12ish each, but the paper book Scholastic versions were maybe $12 for all three. The quality isn't the same, of course, but they'll last through my kiddos, and that's all I need!

As a teacher, I liked how excited kids got about the products (books!) I also think the rewards for teachers are pretty generous. I was able to order about $150 worth of stuff for our co-op using rewards from about $250 worth of kids' orders. Teachers spend so much of their own money on the classroom, I was excited that purchasing things I wanted anyway could help them get free stuff for the classroom instead.

I have only ordered once but they came home in a plastic bag in her backpack. Don't think she saw. But the order comes with a note to tell them if it's a gift so they came make sure your LO doesn't see it.

I doubt any teacher would sort in front of the kids--how mean to kids who didn't order! But they might just give pre-sorted ones to the kids. I would also just send a note to the teacher to say it's a gift, and I'm sure she'd oblige.

I organize the book orders for our parent co-op, and also order for my little one (and used to order when I was a public school teacher.) I love Scholastic.

I'm a teacher. The books get delivered in one box to the teacher so it's up to the teacher whether she sorts them in front of the kids. Just send a note to your child's teacher letting her know that you want to gift the books and prefer that your Lo not see them. I'm sure she'd understand.

My son comes home from school with them but I don't know if he really realizes what's in his bucket. If I didn't want him to see them I'd email the teacher who organizes it and ask if she could have one of his teachers give it to us another way.

My LO is in preschool & gets scholastic book orders every few weeks. I haven't ordered any yet but want to for Christmas gifts!

I need to find out if the kids see the books when they sort them - or if they don't, so I could gift them.

Do you order from any?
