My kids don't get a whole lot of variety in the morning. Breakfast is all my husband's domain because I leave at 6:45 am. He gives them oatmeal with a side of fruit, cereal with a side of fruit, those veggie De-light zuchinni muffins with a side of eggs, or eggs with fruit and mini bagel. Occasionally silver dollar pancakes, but never alone...only with eggs and fruit also.

I like to make sure my son has a filling breakfast because he doesn't always eat his lunch.

So, we do frozen waffles or pancakes, oatmeal with banana (I freeze them when they get really brown so we always have them on hand), cereal with milk or toast with cream cheese. I can't cook eggs in the morning, but if my son ate them, I would make egg cups in biscuit dough. Freeze and warm in the toaster oven.

We use our toaster oven a lot on school mornings.
Frozen homemade muffins, frozen waffles, frozen pancakes.

Plus fresh fruit or applesauce. Always a fruit with a starch. She takes forever to eat cereal so that is a once or twice a week thing.

I have found that cutting up fruit on the weekends makes getting it on the table in the morning much easier. Even peeling a clementine takes time.

We do a lot of cereal bars and granola bars. Sometimes we don't even have time for oatmeal and really that doesn't take that long. I usually batch cook a ton of french toast and pancakes. I use the kodiak pancake mix and make with whole milk and eggs so that they have a lot of protein. I just pop them in the microwave for less than a minute and we're ready to go.

My kids aren't big breakfast eaters so we don't go big. Plus, DS1 usually supplements at before school care and DS2 gets a morning snack at daycare.

@Mrs D: If you have one - we pop the frozen pancakes in a toaster oven at a lower setting so they warm vs. crisp. Might help any burning. Any part that actually gets toasted my LO won't eat so I commiserate.

My 4yo likes the following:

- PB&J (he can’t have it for lunch anymore so if he asks for breakfast I oblige)
- frozen waffles or pancakes
- frozen turkey sausage (fully cooked so it’s just in microwave for a minute)
- turkey bacon (also in microwave for 2 mins or so)
- yogurt
- cheese and fruit

Of all the above, the most common is probably waffle, yogurt or cheese, and fruit.

I do oatmeal in the microwave with regular Quaker Oats. 1/2 a cup of oatmeal, 3/4 cup water. Cook for 2 minutes on 70 percent power. Then add frozen blueberries/cherries/banana, etc. then microwave for 30 more seconds on regular power. To cool it off for my LO sometimes I put the frozen fruit in after. Anyway, I find it to be much easier and foolproof than tending to it on the stove, even if I have to make two bowls.

Sundays I often make pumpkin or banana muffins, those are great for a super QUICK grab

@Mrs D: Probably not something you aim to copy but every single morning, 7 days a week, our 2.5 year old DS gets milk, a cereal bar (whole foods brand so ok but not great), and either a banana or a bowl of berries. No change, haha. Because it’s what he likes and eats and well ... toddler. Lol

Sandwiches are a total fail, DS will sit there staring at the sandwich for ten minutes, pick it up, drop part of it, stare some more, and end up almost being late to school. He's not a morning person...

Mini bagels with cream cheese or English muffins (mine love the raisin English muffins with cream cheese and a sprinkle of cinnamon.) that’s pretty much it. I can’t even handle eggs in the morning.

We do silver dollar pancakes a lot. Like, almost every day a lot. Those might be a good alternative/variety option to french toast sticks. You can make a bunch from scratch and freeze them to reheat in the toaster oven or you can buy boxes frozen (Trader Joe's and Eggo both make 'em).

Our kids eat oatmeal 90% of the time for breakfast. We do the regular Quaker oats (not instant, but also not steel cut because steel cut takes way too long). It takes about 5-7 minutes on the stove top in a little saucepan. Just water and oats but I know some people make their oats with milk.

For toppings we do dried cranberries and slivered almonds which are already stored in containers in the fridge, or a spoonful of peanut butter and banana slices. This is a great go-to if your kids like oatmeal. If they do, it's so easy, fast and healthy!

If they are vocal about not eating oatmeal from the get go, we have a few other options for breakfast. These can also be made ahead, stored in the fridge and warmed in the toaster oven but they really only a few mins in the mornings:

- mini cocktail wieners cut in half, fried so they're a little cripsy, toast with jam or butter, few slices of cheese
- Grilled cheese in our panini maker (SO easy)
- scrambled egg with toast
