I had all kinds of pain including one that only went away if I put a heating pad to it. Of course, it was approved by my OB since it was just on my lower back. I had awful upper glutes pain. The only way it wouldn't hurt was to sit up and lean forward a little. That went away after the birth of my second son. But I'm left with horrible right hip pain and sometimes back pain probably from the pressure on my nerves during both pregnancies. I didn't even gain that much weight with my second. I don't think it's sciatica since I don't get shooting pain down my leg... but it's still painful. Pregnancy is so rough on your body. :(

Sounds like a chiro might be the way to go. My OB mentioned PT last time but I'll ask about chiro and massage.

@Jennimac: oh no! That is so far away lol!!

@blackbird: the past few night it does help a bit if I lie completely still, but sometimes it hurts so bad all I can do I wiggle around all night.

I had it pretty consistently at the end. I had a small break where it went away. I found that if i laid very still, the pain actually diminished. Pressure point therapy and ice also helped.

My dr. Recommended chiropractic care & its the best thing I could have done for myself. I started at 15 weeks w/ a badly pinched nerve & found relief right away. After 2 weeks I had no problems with it & have felt good up until recently. 31.5 w/ twins. They like to hide under the same ribs now :-/ that's a whole different issue. Make sure if you go to a chiro that they are certified in prenatal care.

I used a heating pad on low heat my entire second pregnancy. I also got a prescription for prenatal massages so my insurance covered it.

Oh and I forgot! I went to physical therapy for about 10 weeks. They used heat, massage and a few exercises to stop the pain. It was heavenly.

@Jennimac: haha! I know what you mean! I hurt sooo bad in late pregnancy but I don't want to scare anyone either.

It is worth it I promise! But I felt like I was dropped off a truck.

You are not going to like my answer. It went away about 4 weeks after I had LO. I even thought I was developing arthritis because it hurt so badly after she was born. Then, one morning, it disappeared and I was sooooooo happy.

I didn't have sciatic pain, but lots of hip pain in those mid 20's weeks too. I would toss and turn all night. A body pillow between my knees down to my ankles helped a little, but eventually it subsided and I think I also got used to it and turned over in my sleep more without noticing. Seeing my chiropractor also probably didn't hurt either. Sorry, not much help, but commiseration!

@fussygal: I think it will! I learned on YouTube with esther ekhart. Yoga for beginners showed me those two poses and they are safe and help a lot.

@swedishfish: thanks! My pain is in my hips and thighs mostly :( I'll ask my OB to see if a belt would help though!

@Greentea: I'm hoping to start a prenatal yoga class soon. I hope that helps! I know nothing about yoga :)

I hurt so bad starting around 6 months... I did very gentle warrior 1 and 2 positions throughout the day. I good mattresses would have helped. I tried everything and it would change... sometimes I had to lay on pillows a topper a camp pad!

For the past month I've been having some major sciatic nerve pain at night only. Last night was the worst by far and I dread going to bed every night because I'm literally up every 20 minutes stretching or rolling over (which doesn't help). I've tried the Snoogle, pillows under my thighs, behind my back, stretches before bed, everything! I also feel terrible because I know my restlessness wakes DH.

Last time I saw my OB it had just started and he said if it got worse physical therapy could be an option. My next appt is on Wednesday so I'll talk to him again and see what he says, but in the meantime I'd love to know if and how any of you were able to find relief!

ETA: When did your pain go away? My OB said there are a few "windows" for having it and sometimes it disappears on its own, but other times it doesn't go away until after birth.
