Just an update--I tried chiropractic and acupuncture and enjoyed both--I think they definitely helped/dulled the pain. However, it was a prenatal massage that was given by someone who specialized in prenatal massage for sciatica that things changed. Around 38 weeks I got one. I felt much better afterwards and within a few days it was COMPLETELY GONE. I feel like a million bucks now. At nearly 40 weeks I am still experiencing some pelvic pain and general discomfort from being so big, but having the sciatic pain has made life so much easier.

Bottom line, if you are experiencing sciatica, try to find a massage therapist trained in prenatal sciatic pain. It was not a relaxing massage like I am used to--it was almost more like physical therapy (in a spa setting), but it really worked wonders.

@maybebaby: Just from time to time, I think I need to see a chiro but just haven't had the time.

I had it too, but nothing really helped. I didn't go to a chiro, but I did try to sit on a yoga ball or lean back over a pillow when sitting on the sofa. Sorry I'm not muh of a help. But it has gone away after baby was born!

@charliewhiskey: OI've been seeing her for pelvic/pubic bone pain and it has definitely helped with that. After today's adjustment, I am still in near constant pain but it is kind of dulled--far less acute. I am SO hopeful hearing your success with it! I have another appointment set up for a week from today.

@maybebaby: I started around 26 weeks or so due to a searing pain in my ribs that I couldn't deal with. I think I went twice a week for the first 2 or 3 weeks, then once a week or more as needed. I don't think I ever went less than once a week. She also helped with pubic bone pain as I got further along (my belly was huge). Best money I've ever spent! All my pain went away after delivery.

Did you get any relief today? It took me a few adjustments, and then I felt awesome!

Mine was terrible and the only thing that helped was my chiropractor. She was seriously a god-send during my pregnancy. She showed me a way to stretch out the sciatic nerve in between appointments. Sit on the edge of a chair, and put the heel on the painful side on the opposite knee (like how men sit with their legs crossed). Sit up straight and/or bend forward slightly. Hope you get some relief soon!

I had it extremely bad and genuinely could barely walk. The only thing that helped was weekly massages and not moving! Don't panic-after birth I found out the Reason I had such extreme sciatica was because I had delivered sunny side up and he had been pinching my sciatic nerve. Rare for that to happen.

Mine popped up at the very end (and was brutal during delivery) as the baby dropped lower. The less I moved, the less it hurt. Pressure point massage helped a little (a lot during delivery)

It went away immediately after delivery!!! Sweet relief :)

Yes! I had my PT friend show me some exercises that can help... But I don't remember what they were. She did say, though, that often in pregnancy muscles slipping around some joint can masquerade as sciatica. The exercises were especially helpful for that.

I'm not as far along as you, but my sciatica/SI joint pain has been with me this whole pregnancy. Now that I'm actually carrying some decent weight (24 weeks), the pain is less frequent, but more intense.

For me, heating pads, hot showers, switching positions almost constantly (not sitting for too long, etc), and just taking it easy helped the most. I saw a chiropractor for about eight weeks, but because I also have fibromyalgia, his adjustments hurt more than helped.

I really hope you find something that works out for you - the pain is ridiculous!

Has anyone dealt with this? I'm 35 weeks and severe sciatic pain has just begun in the past few days. It is almost constant and I can't walk or move without pain. I just got an exercise ball and have tried heat compresses. I plan to go for a chiropractic adjustment this week. Any other ways to cope with the pain? Thank you!
