@mrbee: Yup, it's usually when we're holding him. We flew last week and I noticed that he did it a lot while we were on the plane as he was in the Ergo for long stretches. But now that we're home, he's doing it all the time while we hold him. When we put him down he will go and do his open thing, but as we snuggle, he is ripping our faces to shreds! It's not a good look for me :(

Maybe this is a good reminder for me to put him down more!

@Periwinkle: Does it happen mostly when one of you guys is holding the kids? We dealt with some similar stuff, and found it helped to just immediately put the kids down if they did something like that!

We just returned home from a vacation and while LO was amazing on the trip (such a happy little boy!), he has come back with a new "game." He now wants to squeeze/pinch/scratch our faces when we play and while his nails are trimmed and filed, he is actually starting to hurt both my husband and me.

The more we say "no" and redirect his attention, the more he wants to continue the behavior. Not only are our faces getting scratched a lot, but I am starting to get nervous about where this new habit came from. LO is almost 15 months old.

For those who have dealt with similar situations, how did you manage? And most importantly, what did you do to curb this (painful) behavior?
