Poor kiddo! We use eye drops for our 2.5 year old as it affects his eyes more than anything else. We're using Zaditor once in the morning and at night.

My 4 year old has a horrible time with seasonal allergies. We just saw his allergist. She told us to try Xyzal since he’d been on zyrtec so long. Then we use Flonase, Singular, and eye drops. We will be starting immunotherapy in July. We have to wait until then because that’s when the spring allergens will be gone.

@lioneyes: I also want to throw it out there that I think pollen allergies are at their absolute peak here in the north east. It’s insane how fast the pollen in coating everything. Within the next couple weeks it’s supposed to get way better so hopefully that helps him too.

We do Zyrtec, baths every night to rinse off the pollen. Don't line dry sheets, clothes or towels outside where they can gather pollen. Leave windows shut and use a/c. In your car, there is an outside air and an inside air button. Use inside air. Many "wildflowers" are highly allergenic also, so discourage any picking of them.

Basically all the ways to avoid allergens are total buzzkill but totally worth it to not feel like crap.

ETA: Also, replace your furnace/a/c filter. Get a HEPA filter and pay attention to the MERV rating, which indicates the particle size it filters out.

Another everyday Zyrtec user. We tried Claritin first but Zyrtec was much more effective for her symptoms. We also use benadryl or cortisone cream for topical relief on insect bites (we are in FL so mosquitos are a year-round problem here).
Hope you find some relief!

We use Zyrtec or Claritin and Flonase. Lots of hand washing. Bathing and laundry when coming in from outside to get the allergens off.

3.5 is when my daughter got really bad. For her it was exhaustion, huge puffy eyes (nearly closed at times) plus usually drippy congestion. She uses Allegra and singulair (which is rx chewable) and sometimes rhinocort (my allergist says nasal spray is the best but it’s a fight for us). We also had an ointment for around eyes and eye drops but sounds like those aren’t your issues.

For bug bites she also has huge reactions and allergist gave us triamcinolone cream (also rx) and it works so much better than otc creams. If we apply right away they aren’t an issue.

We started shots at 4.5 and it has really helped her (almost 2 years in now). We live in a high allergen area and needed to improve her quality of life ... she had some speech issues at that age and the allergies were so bad it would exacerbate her speech issues - they would improve overnight when tree season was over!

Is there a new allergist you could try? Hard to tell from a post of course but sounds like maybe they’re not trying that much. I get ear congestion/pain with my own allergies and it is so miserable.

I second the local honey, we use it with my son and it has helped, but we also use Zyrtec everyday this time of year.

@lioneyes: I have heard of local honey helping, but I haven’t tried it yet. It cant hurt, if it’s easy enough to find.

DS is 3.5 and suffers from seasonal allergies. We took him to the allergist last Fall after a particularly tough summer of discomfort in his ears and mouth (which ENT said means an itchy throat and ears) and he's allergic to some types of pollen. We were prescribed nasal spray and the doctor kind of threw up his hands like, "that's life!".

Today at Camp the teacher said DS had his fingers in his ears, and was rubbing his gums, chewing anything he could (including trying to use the teacher's finger to poke back in his mouth to scratch- the new Director was like HE BIT HER and the teacher was like, no he clearly was uncomfortable and wanted help scratching. SO that's a whole other annoyance.). He also has a few HUGE bug bites and little red bumps on his cheeks and chest which are from allergies. Any suggestions on what to do for him? Am going to start Allegra tonight but any other tips?
