@corduroy: What kind of daybed do you have? I'd think a daybed with trundle might be a good option - covers the guest problem, could be used for a toddler bed eventually, and gives more space if the whole family wanted to sit and read a book. I worried some of the daybed/trundles were too high off the ground for toddlers later?

I absolutely don't think its wrong to have guests sleep on couches or blow up beds. You're helping them out by letting them stay with you instead of paying for a hotel! They can't expect you to make big purchase decisions based on what's convenient for them! Buy what works best for you and your family.

We have the hemnes daybed in DD1s room. It was okay for nursing, but I preferred the glider. It's now her big girl bed.

We had a twin bed in the nursery for the first several months and it was great. I had a C-section and it was easier to sleep in her room with her where all her stuff was, or even just lounge there nursing and watching TV on my laptop during the day.

We have a daybed in LO's room. I use it for a changing table mostly. I nursed and I read to her in the glider, also in her room. I wouldn't be comfortable nursing while sitting on the bed. We will be moving her out of the crib soon and plan to use the bed for her.

Although I'd really like a nice glider, maybe something bigger would be better since I'd have a toddler and a newborn? Maybe a loveseat, or a sleeper loveseat/sleeper sofa, is the right option?

I'm torn because we have to accomodate guests - BIL, his wife and their two kids - about 3-4 times per year, but I really don't want to buy my furniture based on that. Is that terrible? I may have to start a new thread re: whether it's awful to make visitors sleep on blow up mattresses or couches?

We have a love seat (IKEA klippan)- I have always preferred nursing on a couch. Plus it's there for occasional naps/lounging, and my toddler can grab a book and sit next to me while baby sis is on my lap. I never had a nice glider to compare with, though...sometimes I think that would be nice!

We had a folding futon from IKEA. I liked it quite a lot because we could sprawl out on it, but it wasn't comfortable for sitting.

We have a day bed in what will be our nursery. We plan to take the frame down and use the mattress as a floor bed later. We'll also have a glider armchair, so that will be our primary seating.

So, we aren't pregnant with #2 yet but that's the plan... Meanwhile, we have a bedless spare room (we gave our old queen bed to my little brother because it was too big for the room) that I'd like to continue to use as a guest room until it's time for the nursery. I'm considering purchasing either a pullout sofa or daybed (like the Ikea hemnes daybed) that could convert into a queen when needed for guests, or could simply be a small twin sleeping option in a nursery.

That said, we never had a bed in the nursery of our first son. Just a wooden rocking chair that wasn't super comfortable. So I'm not sure if I'd prefer a day bed or couch or a comfortable rocker/recliner for baby #2.

Anyone have a couch or daybed in their nursery? Pros/Cons? Was it good for breastfeeding? Help with the transition to a toddler bed later on?
