I live in Ballard.

Sunday is a good day to stay in Ballard because of the Farmer's Market. My son likes the free samples (smoked salmon, pickles, etc.).

I like to go to the zoo if it's raining because my kid can run around outside, but it's not muddy. Plus, there's an indoor play area there called Zoomazium (with a separate play area for younger kids). There's a restaurant a block from the zoo called Phinney Market Pub that has a train table.

The Locks is another good place to go if you don't mind getting a little wet. You can watch the boats go up and down and there's a paved path through a nice garden.

There are free toddler gyms at the Ballard Community Center (9-12:30 M/W/F) and the Loyal Heights Community Center (10-2 T/Th).

The Ballard Church has a free indoor play area that's open T/W/Th 10:30-1:30.

Seattle Gymnastics Academy has an indoor playground from 12-1 six days a week if that time works with your nap schedule. I think it's $6 drop-in.

Royal Drummer is a cafe in Ballard that has a small play area for little kids. You order at the counter, then they bring out your food and drinks.

Ballard Coffee Works has a play table (and great coffee). It's a block from the library.

It's easy to get to Seattle Center from Ballard, so you could go to the Children's Museum, the Science Center, or ride the Monorail.

Check ParentMap magazine for lots of other ideas. They have some articles about rainy day playgrounds, etc.

Oh, and if you like pastries, make sure you go to Besalu while they're open (Wednesday-Sunday 7-3).

Since you're in Ballard, you should go to the Hiram Chittenden locks! You can watch the boats go through the locks, check out the fish ladder, and possibly even see a seal. It's one of my favorite places to bring out-of-town visitors!

If it's not too rainy, there's also Discovery Park and Golden Gardens Park, which might be nice to walk around. Pike Place is always fun, and going during the weekday might be better than the weekend. University Village (outdoor mall) is nice to walk around as well. There's a children's play area, Molly Moon's ice cream shop, restaurants, Starbucks, and the Amazon bookstore.

We went in November when DD was 16 months. The children's museum was great. We walked around Pike Place but honestly it was so crowded it stressed us all out. There are several family-friendly breweries, if you're into beer. We went to Fremont and DD had a blast playing with the toys and eating pretzels while we hung out and drank beer. Other than that, we mostly swam in the hotel pool and walked around aimlessly :)

+1 on the Children's Museum.
I would also take a walk around Pike Place Market. It's fun looking at all the seafood and arts & craft items.

The children's museum and science center are great! We also love the zoo, but it depends on your rain tolerance.

DS and I are tagging along on DH's business trip to Seattle tomorrow for 5 days. Looks like it's supposed to rain every day 😩. We are staying in Ballard and will have a car. DH will be busy Thursday and Friday but has the weekend off. What's fun to do with a 16 month old?
