@HazelEyes: Yup the connector piece worked great! Didn't need to hack anything at all. I'm so happy I can use all my extra Medela parts and not have to re buy Spectra parts.

I had the PISA for my first and now I have a Spectra S2. It is a bit quieter and I find that it is more comfortable to use than the PISA.

I just read on a blog that Maymom released a connector piece to connect Medela parts with the Spectra backflow protectors, eliminating the need to "hack" the pieces together. I just ordered it since I have a ton of Medela spare parts.

I absolutely love the Spectra. I have never had a problem and respond really well to it

Spare parts are expensive, but my insurance gives me free replacement parts every 6 months. So if you order your pump 4-5 months before you have the kid, you can get your spare set before you go back to work.

@T.H.O.U.: I really liked having the Spectra S9 but it's pretty dang loud, but so is the Freestyle if you use a higher suction power. I like that there's less parts to clean with Spectra vs the Freestyle. The suction also seems to be more gentle than that of the Freestyle without sacrificing effectiveness. However, the duck bills on the Spectra are kind of delicate. They attach to the flange very snug which is great, but taking them off to wash is a bit difficult and I can foresee it ripping easily sooner than later.

Meanwhile, I have also used the Spectra Dew350, which is their hospital grade one. The tube connection to the pump itself is extremely flimsy and can pop off easily. But again, their suction is gentle. However, there's no letdown mode. My body doesn't seem to have a problem with that though, but I know some people require that so it's something to keep in mind.

I have a Spectra S2 and I love it. I hacked mine to fit Medela parts since I use a Symphony at work and like Medela bottles. Took less than 5 minutes.

It still makes noise but it's not bad. Last week I had to pump at the movie (weird, I know) and I had it in its bag and threw my coat over it and you couldn't hear it.

I have the plug in Spectra S1, so it doesn't have a battery, which may be a problem for work. But I bought extra parts off of the spectra website.

http://www.spectrababyusa.com

On a side note, I've pumped with my baby and husband asleep next to me and they've slept right through the noise. I've never used the PISA though. And I ordered mine 6/2015 and have the membrane valve and not the duckbill valve that it used to have.

@T.H.O.U.: I really liked my Freestyle also. Before I read/heard about the Spectra, I was all about getting another Freestyle. Just hoping I don't regret my decision now. Ha! Also, I ordered the Spectra S9, which is portable. My insurance didn't cover the S2.

@Alivoo01: Annoying for the 10-15 minutes it took me to do it, but you don't have to mess with it ever again unless you replace the tubing. The hardest part was getting the little connectors out of the Medela tubing. Totally worth the time/effort!

I used the Spectra S2 along with the PISA for 9 months of exclusive pumping - Spectra wins hands down, for me! The suction and vibrations feel totally different (more comfortable) and I got more milk when I used the Spectra.

There is info online on how to 'hack' the Spectra to fit Medela parts. I did it and it worked fine - I much prefer the Medela parts.

I wouldn't want to deal with different parts, honestly. My work has Medela Symphony pumps in our lactation rooms, and I was so glad most of the parts were interchangeable with the PISA (the tubes are different and that was annoying enough in itself)

I used Ameda with my first and a PIsA with my second. If we have a third, I plan to go with either a Spectra or Hygeia. I can't remember which of the two is a closed system? PISA wasn't and it drove me bonkers because I got milk in the tubes all the time.

I have both and LOVE the Spectra. It is quieter and so much more comfortable than the PISA. I didn't buy extra parts since I only use the Spectra at work- I just use the one set it came with and wash it when I get home each day. It does not work with Medela bottles as it comes, but there are hacks online that make it work with medela parts. The reviews I read about that were mixed, so I've always been too scared to try it. But yes, I would highly recommend it!

I had a Medela Freestyle with DS, and just recently ordered the Spectra for DD. Initially, I thought I would just order another Freestyle so I wouldn't have to worry about parts and what not, but I've heard such great reviews about Spectra so I bit the bullet and ordered it.

I heard (and hope it's true) that the Medela bottles fit the Spectra... I didn't even think about the spare parts of the Spectra! Crap! Hope it's durable and I won't need to worry about it...

I’m thinking I should take advantage of the money my insurance will pay towards a second pump so it’s one less thing to lug to and from work each day, but am undecided on which to get. I can purchase any pump I want (from anywhere) and submit the receipt for up to a $150 reimbursement.

I can’t decide between a second PISA (have one from my first LO) or the Spectra S1 or S2. On one hand, I already have all the parts for the Medela and won’t have to worry about what parts I have at work and what I have at home. But on the other hand, I’ve read really great things about the Spectra.

I figure they would cost me the same amount out of pocket, so that's not really a factor either way. PISA was a little more $$ but I won’t need to buy parts, whereas Spectra cost a little less but I will need to buy extra parts.

Does anyone have experience with both of these pumps, and if so, which do you prefer? Is the Spectra really as quiet as the reviews make it seem?

And....side question for Spectra users…..where do you buy your spare parts? I didn’t see much on Amazon, so that’s one concern I have about going with the S1 or S2. I'm not exactly sure what extras I'd need or where to get them.
