I am not a smoker and most of our friends/family are considerate enough not to smoke near our child. The ones I have seen take long, exaggerated drags and purposely blow smoke (vapor) in people's faces. But apparently there's no clear consensus yet... and at the very least, I can definitely smell some of the flavored tobaccos. I also read that if you turn up the heat on your vaporizer, that can release more stuff that might be dangerous... not sure though, I've found it hard to get detailed info on this stuff.</p> <p>I think the consensus is that vaping is probably much safer than smoking... but that the effects of secondhand vapor on others are not fully known. Regardless of whether it's safe or not, I find big puffs of smelly "vapor" (or whatever) to be really off-putting, especially while eating. Like others, it's preferable to a regular cigarette but I still don't want to breath it in. Luckily my area has had no smoking inside for a really long time already and I don't see many people even using e cigarettes indoors or at outside patios at restaurants. But we went on a ski trip with our then 1 year old last winter and one guy kept lighting (smoking?) one in the cabin and his wife kept reminding him to go outside because there was a baby. The verdict isn't out which means it's not conclusive that it's safe. My old coworker that sat next to me while I was pregnant regularly lit up and e cig. I couldn't smell it but I did some research and was not comfortable. I would have moved or left. Thankfully you cannot smoke inside where we live. I have never seen someone use an e-cig inside either but not sure if that's illegal or not. We live in a place where a huge percentage of the population smokes. This country has the highest per capita rate of smoking after China, and it's only 8 million people! Smoking is also allowed in public places and they still do divided seating in restaurants. It's disgusting. From what I understand, the dangers of second-hand e-cig smoke is ostensibly lower than real cigarette smoke and given the high percentage of people who smoke real cigarettes, I would much rather be sitting next to an e-cig than a real one. The water vapor drifted over, and I could clearly smell apple-flavored tobacco. I did some research later, and discovered that some flavored tobaccos emit a smell (along with water vapor) when they're smoked.</p> <p>I didn't say anything at the time, because I had read that e-cigarettes emit only water vapor (apparently that may not be true? But didn't know that at the time.) I wasn't thrilled about it though. If it had been a real cigarette I would've left, but because it was an e-cig I just let it slide. If he had kept smoking much longer, I would've just taken the kids on a walk outside while we waited for our food to arrive.</p> <p>If someone smoked an e-cigarette near you, would that bother you? What if it was near your kids? </p>
