I don't know what happened but I'm sorry you have to look into this :( We have Foscams, the outdoor one we have is the FI 8905. There is also a different lens you can get for it which we did, allows us to see more of our porch. There is a Foscam program that people are very happy with, seems to be only compatible with PC and we only have Macs so haven't tried that, we use them with Vera system which is kind of a pain to set up but works very well. We also have sensors all over - motion sensors on our porch and a couple throughout the house, door sensors that let us know when a door is open for all our doors to outside plus our 3 year old's door so we know when he gets up and leaves his room. If you or your DH is into IT it is a good system, again kind of a pain to set up and get functioning but totally customizable.

@Bao: we have a dropcam and you get the app free. You can view the live feed on your phone or laptop. More than one phone. You can get email and or phone notifications. Recorded feed is an extra monthly fee.

I had purchased the foscam with dd1 and could never figure out how to set it up with my Mac. The dropcam (now called Nest, I think) setup is an absolute breeze!

Sorry to hear about the incident. :(.

@MenagerieMama: @birdofafeather: thanks guys! I really need about 4 of them that can hold up in Michigan weather. Would love it to record and also view live feed from a computer or phone.

We use drop cam for security downstairs. Super easy to set up and works great! Checked in our dogs from overseas to make sure the petsitter came when she should.

@Bao: i don't use the outdoor model, so i can't link to a particular one! i've just been very happy with it for indoor use and imagine that their outdoor models would be great as well. i would go on google and amazon reviews!

i would look into the foscam because that's what they're originally for! you can get a email with video if someone comes by, etc.
