@futuremama: I hope your appt goes well!! I ALWAYS forget to ask every question at the doctor's office. It's like the dr is royalty and I'm afraid to do anything but listen - then I have a million unanswered questions.

@blackbird: thanks for the info. My OB said she could do most of the tests but gave us the option of seeing the specialist. We chose the specialist because, if I did get pregnant and have another m/c, I want to know that I did everything possible to prevent it. It's more for peace of mine than anything.

I'm sorry for your losses. I hope the RE can help figure out what's going on.

When I was working with an RE, I always made a list of questions before/in between appointments. Because I always forgot too, and it was so much easier to just sit with the doctor or nurse and click down a list. They were happy to answer all of them :)

I had two in a row but my OB took care of my testing, not an RE. She took a bunch of blood draws and did an HSG test. Found out I have MTHFR which is a blood clotting disorder and is fairly common in recurrent miscarriages. Also found low progesterone.

Also easily treated with an Rx folic acid and a baby aspirin! Plus progesterone in the first tri. More serious cases can require injections of blood thinners.

And yes, I was terrified when I got pregnant for the third time. I did not expect it to stick and just totally forgot I was pregnant because i felt like....well, i can't really control anything. They gave me ultrasounds every other week, which I appreciated. It stuck and everything is great and now I'm almost full term.

PS getting an 'answer' was hugely relieving, so I hope you get some, too!

I have my initial appointment with an RE on Thurs. to start investing the cause of my miscarriages. My Ob/gyn referred me to him after my second consecutive loss at 8 weeks. Has anyone else seen an RE for this? I know that he'll order tests for clotting and hormones and possibly a saline u/s. Are there any questions I should ask? I always feel like I have a million questions. Then, when I get to the appointment, I don't ask anything.

I'm just so afraid that he won't find anything and I'll be terrified when I get pregnant again. Let's be honest, that'll probably be the case even if he finds something easy to fix.
