I know this is old, but glad he liked it! I took my LO when it came out. Wasn't a bit scary. The scary part was the trailers! LOL! She even wanted Maleficent horns at Disney World. (I got them.)

I talked to a few ladies I work with who've seen the movie and they thought the only real scary part was the ending. Soooo, I took him. He did so great. He started to get a little antsy towards the end of the movie so we got up and took a bathroom break - perfect timing.

I don't know why I worry so much about stuff like this - my sister and I were watching movies like Silence of Lambs and Dirty Dancing before I was 5 (my mom doesn't recall 'letting us' watch these movies - so not sure how we got our hands on them).

No way! My kiddo won't sit still for 5 seconds to watch TV, we would never get through a movie. And I'm all about following the suggested ages of movie ratings and PG seems like something better suited for an 8 year old, in my opinion.

PG Rating
A PG-rated film may not be suitable for children. The MPAA says a PG-rated should be checked out by parents before allowing younger children to see the movie. There could be some profanity, some violence, or brief nudity, however there will not be any drug use in a PG film.

A young toddler at an evening movie seems like a recipe for disaster. Not to mention that this movie looks scary--fabulous!--but scary. I would pass.

@Mrs. Pen: my question exactly! I'm impressed, no way would my kiddo sit still long enough to make going to a movie worthwhile.

I read that they had to use Angelina Jolie's daughter in the movie because all the other kid actors were too scared of her to act with her in some of the scenes! I would pass.

@mrs.pen - yes, he loves going to the movies - he does good (sure he's still a toddler - but good enough for me to want to take him back  ). He hasn't seen anything too scary yet but he loves Monsters Inc. and Toy Story (and there are some scary parts in those).

does your toddler sit through movies? That would be my issue! I tried watching Frozen with J but he only sits through about 20-30 minutes unless it's Curious George or Daniel Tiger :-P

My 2yo is scared of everything - horses, the trolls from Frozen... even Olaf scared her in the beginning - so I would not take her :) The trailer for Maleficent seemed kinda dark and scary, I don't know if I would risk it.

I don't know if he'd like it but I know DS wouldn't be frightened. It's dark, there's fire/smoke, but it's really sweet. Fairies, babies, animals.
There are adult undertones but small children wouldn't understand.

I loved it!

@mamaof2; thanks - I was trying to find something like that out there. My niece (the 3 year old) LOVES "scary" movies - but she has older brothers - so I know she'll be fine, just not positive about my guy.

I saw an article about this the other day - here is an excerpt:

There are battles and a dragon and spooky smoke and a wound or two, plus the death of a "Sleeping Beauty" stalwart. For kids who have been toddling along with G-rated movies, this would be a big step up. But if your child has seen and tolerated other PG films — and you don't mind him or her crawling into your lap when a menacing wolf appears — your average kindergartner will be fine. Older kids who are familiar with "Sleeping Beauty" will likely get a kick out of how this film twists the story they know.

My mom and sister are going to Maleficent tonight (my sister is taking her kids 10, 6 & 3) debating about going and taking my 2.5 year old. Anyone seen it? Is it scary? Not sure what to do - it's rated PG.
