You all made me feel so much better. I appreciate it so much. I was playing with him tonight and thought 'screw them, karma is a beeyotch'.

@78h2o: awe a side Mohawk sounds awesome and I bet she's a gorgeous girl! Thanks for the love :)
@sorrycharlie: I didn't mean to ignore your 'thread jack' (not that I see it that way!) no Internet during t,he day! I'm sorry people ask ignorant questions. I'm hoping they aren't educated on it and are just asking with good intentions, but even then we are so fierce with our love that its hard to not go on the defense immediately. I babysat a little girl with one on her cheek the size of a large gum ball and she was gorgeous! Just because she had that didn't take away from her beauty and I know you'll teach your LO to be confident in her beauty as well.

I love little J!! People are so sad and obnoxious. It doesn't help, and isn't nice, but when I encounter people like that I think about what could be wrong in their life to make them so terrible.

Not to thread jack but I have a small idea of how you're feeling..O has a small hemangioma on her forehead and people are always asking me when it'll "fall off" or when I plan to have it removed. It's the size of a pencil eraser! She has a large one (bigger than a nickel) on her chest that I'm worried will cause her grief :( if people (adults!!) alreadythink it's totally fine to discuss, how bad will kids be? Ugh..

J is gorgeous! I cannot imagine that couple was talking about him or his ears, really...He makes me smile every time I see him- how happy he always looks makes him even cuter! I get you wanting to protect him though- and I would be the absolute same way. You are such a good mama:)

Aww, I'm so sorry you had to go through that at the store, those people are such jerks! I haven't seen your little boy but I'm sure he's just gorgeous. I don't have any kids yet, but I bet I'll feel the exact same way if my kids inherit any features that I am self-conscious about in myself. It's hard not to worry that they will end up dealing with the same insecurities that we do, but it sounds like you're a great mom who loves him very much!

I bet he is adorable :) I had terrrrrrible stuck out ears as a kid, and only recently 'grew into them.' The only advice I have is to just not focus on them. My mother tended to feed into my embarrassment with them, sometimes with comments about how we could 'fix' them, and I always fantasized about having them pinned back, to the point of an unhealthy obsession with how they looked, I think.

I think you are being awesome and protective, but I just wanted to say that as long as you raise him to not focus on physical appearance as paramount, and give him good coping skills on how to deal with people who might bully him, you got nothing to worry about :) And like I said, I bet he's suuuper adorable :)

What???? J is SO stinking cute!!! So many boys have ears like his, simply because they can't cover them up like we do! I couldn't imagine anyone laughing at a baby, and if they do then there is something wrong with them. As he grows older, there will always be something that kids will pick on others for, whether it's weight, clothes, the way someone speaks. You are going to bless J with an amazing sense of humor and he will turn it around IF he gets made fun of. DH's ears were a lot larger and stuck out more as a baby but it took a few years for him to grow into them. Hugs!

@babyjmama: aww, I haven't seen your pics, but I'm sure he is adorable. My nephew's ears stick straight out and I think he's a total cutie pie. My Dad had ears like that as a kid and they got better as he got older - maybe your LO's will too? My LOs ears curl a little bit and she has crazy, crazy hair that does make me a little self-conscious. I overheard some ladies commenting about her hair (she has a natural side mohawk) at Target and it made me feel bad for LO. But I got over it quickly. I will make sure she knows how much she's loved and how beautiful she is inside and out. I think she'll be ok! I'm sure your son will too!

Aww poor little guy. I hope those kids get whats coming to them. If it makes you feel any better, kids will find the 'faults' (not to say his ears are a fault) in anyone. I know you will teach him that people who say those things are the ones who are actually so insecure. You have a very handsome little guy :)

That's awful and makes me get a bit teary too! It's one thing when people hurt us, as we can cope with it, but the thought of our babies having to go through any hurt is heartbreaking. You know I love J and think he is the happiest, cutest little guy. Because he is fortunate enough to have parents like you, he is going to grow up with great self-confidence and any little barbs other kids may throw his way are going to roll off his back because his mommy and daddy will have made him strong in who he is. I know it sucks but just think of how awful the lives of those college kids must be if they have to stoop to laughing about a baby to make themselves feel good. I pity them.

@babyjmama: well mama you know I'm in the EXACT same boat. Oh if I could afford it, I would have otoplasty in a heartbeat. And unfortunately J got my ears. At least mine were easily hidden with my long thick hair... but (most) boys don't have the option so I do worry for him. His don't look quite as bad as mine but they do stick out and people comment on them all the time. Not badly, but the fact that they're quite noticeable still bugs me really badly. It is definitely a case of projecting what my feelings were onto him and I truly hope he doesn't go through the same thing.

I'm so sorry :( I'm here and know how you feel.

So as some of you know (mainly I keep up w/the bees I have on Instagram since I haven't had Internet between moves) J has ears that stick out really bad. Honestly I was really self conscious at first bc my ears stick out and I know what it's like to be made fun of. Over the past few months I've gotten over it though and really don't notice them and kinda came to love them because they're part of who he is and I love him!

Anywhodiddle. I was at HyVee last night with him getting groceries and this college aged couple were staring at him and then from an aisle over I heard them say 'did you see that?!' and laugh. I don't know for a fact that they were laughing at his ears but it made me SO upset. I hurt for him bc I was made fun of and I hate that he'll have to go thru it. :(

Is it totally selfish to feel like this?? I don't care for myself, I just don't want him to be hurt because people are jerks :(
