I think asking $30-40 would make sense and then you can lower or negotiate down to $25 if neeeded.

@mrs.wagon: Thanks for the info. I would have bought it used originally had I realized how quickly DS would outgrow it! I'm not expecting to get a lot of money for it, just something reasonable and I'd like another family to be able to use it, so it doesn't just gather dust in our basement (and take up much needed space!).

@Katrocap: I sold two infant car seats, both with extra bases, at a big consignment sale. In fact, car seats were one of the first things to go. I think people are always looking for backups for a second car, grandma's house, etc. Or I don't know, maybe their primary seat especially since infants only use their carseats for like 6 months. I actually bought one of the two that I sold on craigslist to begin with! Both were years from expiring so they went quickly. I based the pricing on what the sale recommended-- I think $30-$40. I got half of that.

@Katrocap: Yep, that's his theory. As long as there's no urgency in selling right away, it's better to try to get a decent deal for yourself, and you can always change it later!

@edelweiss: Thanks. I was thinking it might be too low as well, but I wasn't sure since it's a used car seat and I've read about how one should avoid buying used car seats unless the owner is a friend or family member.

@torchwood: Good advice, thanks. Maybe I'll set the price a little higher and negotiate. I could always repost at a lower price.

My husband ALWAYS asks way more than he thinks something is worth when selling on Craigslist. People always negotiate, so that way he looks like such a good guy for coming down pretty far, and he still gets however much he originally wanted or more. One time we sold a tv stand for exactly what we paid, even though it was new when we got it and we'd had it a couple years. Some people don't negotiate well. I almost felt guilty about that one...

do you know if there are other similar craigslist postings? those prices might give you an idea of what to ask.

as a general rule, i think anything 50% of the original price or lower is reasonable--i almost think $25 is a little too low! however i think people can get away with asking for a lot more than 50% depending on how popular the item is.

DS just graduated to a convertible car seat (rear-facing in a two door car - good times!). We are considering selling his infant car seat and base. It's a Graco Pasadena which sells for $80 on Amazon. I'm just wondering how much to ask for it. I know experts don't recommend buying used car seats, but it's never been in a crash, only been used for 7 months and was purchased less than a year ago. I'd like someone to be able to use it. I was thinking asking for $25. Is this too high/low? Since it's a big item I'll probably post it locally on Craigslist or our neighborhood listserv.
