What a crummy problem! I had a lot of pain and burning during sex for years - and having a baby solved it, honestly. So have hope. Have you seen a doctor that specializes in pelvic/sexual pain? Those exist, and they really change women's lives.

In case you can't solve this right now, have you looked into iui? That might be a good way to take the pressure out of ttc, in terms of solving this whole hassle first.

I sometimes have this issue and wondered the same thing! Eventually I concluded that I think it's usually when I'm dryer down there and maybe I'm having a little tearing and it's causing burning in them (sorry if TMI)

Thanks everyone! This makes me feel so much better. I think I will give it some more time and maybe make a gene appt in the new year?

@yellowbird: @char54: I really hope my experience is like yours and it just subsides on it's own!

@Mrs. Tricycle: I'm definitely going to try and change lubricants to see if that helps! That's something easy and non-invasive to use.

@Weagle: I've heard that too - I guess I'm also worried about the fertility ramifications of a possible allergy, even if the symptoms get better!

@Jennimac: No kidding! This is so stressful!

I totally know someone who has a semen allergy. She has serious reactions. She found that Benadryl before sex helps some.

Have you tried a TTC friendly lube like preseed? Maybe it would act as a liquid barricade of sorts?

When DH and I first stopped using condoms I had the same burning sensation. It scared me because I thought I was allergic too. It would last about a day after we did the deed. After a couple of months it went away completely. I have no idea what it was!

Is there anything you are allergic to that could come out in his semen? I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. As if, just TTC wasn't hard enough!

When DH and I first stopped using condoms (I was still on BC though) it burned and was very very painful for a few hours. I often had to use a cool cloth to feel better. We started using condoms again to avoid that. I told my doctor about it but he wasn't very helpful. Basically said if it got worse to come back.

When we began TTC I was very worried that it would come back - but it hasn't! There hasn't been any burning at all. I wonder if maybe my body was reacting to the foreign substance and just got used to it?

Good luck and I hope it subsides for you, too soon!

@spaniellove: Thanks for your reply :) I have done the BD with a condom before... and while the vulvodynia pain is still there, the burning pain after sex definitely isn't.

I think that's the part that worries me about it being a possible allergy.

I don't know, but one way to experiment might be to BD using a condom before there's any contact? That way you could know for sure if there's any connection between the semen and the pain, or if it's purely physical?

Sorry, I know this way TMI, but I'm just hoping someone else has experienced this. I've tried googling, but it's not very reassuring.

DH and I previously used BCP + pull-out to prevent pregnancy. I have vulvodynia (I've seen a few different specialists) and even with all the topical creams, sex is still painful so we aren't as active in the "intercourse" way as most people are, and generally do other things to stay sexually intimate.

However, since we have been TTC and he's not pulling out anymore, I've noticed that beyond any pain I've ever experienced with the vulvodynia, there is this other new burning sensation that starts about 10 min after sex and stays for 1-2 days. It's really bizzare.

Anyone have a similar experience? Is this what a semen allergy is?

It's just so frustrating, and I'm feeling upset at all the ways my body is rejecting sex.

Thanks in advance :s
