I like those handles but I think they definitely look “kitcheny.” The shape just says kitchen to me.

Thanks everyone. I used the paint we had and I think it came out nice.

What do you guys think about these handles? I wanted something that didnt look too "kitchen-y". Are these nice or do they look too old fashioned?

I have no fashion sense!

we did an ikea dresser in semi-gloss and i love it. used a little foam paint roller as much as possible to avoid brushstrokes, and those cheap foam wedge brushes on other areas. i would prime it first or be prepared to do 3 coats.

I prefer to use flat finish paint on furniture. I then apply a liquid wood wax with a cloth to give it that pottery barn painted finish.

I am not at all an expert. But I think you can do semi gloss, depending on your taste and how much you like the dresser. I read some places not to use house paint on good furniture at all, but other places say it holds up great (I spent a lot of time on Pinterest when we moved into our house!). I think generally something more like a satin finish would be the norm for furniture- wipes down more easily than matte but won’t show brush strokes and imperfections as much as semi gloss. That said I did just what you suggested- used leftover semi gloss or eggshell white paint we had from trim to paint two cheap unfinished ikea nightstands, and they are cute. I think if they were bigger the brush strokes would have been more noticeable though. I might have gotten new paint if it was furniture I really cared about, but for inexpensive pieces it worked fine.

Oh and they are in the guest room so haven’t had much wear and tear to test them.

I also made diy chalk paint using the leftover trim paint and calcium carbonate, but wasn’t overly impressed sincethen you still have to seal it with some kind of top coat. With regular house paint you probably will want to prime it first.

If you don’t mind a little shine, it’s okay. I would paint the back of it as a test, seeing how the light reflects off it to make sure you’re satisfied with it.

Personally, I like everything that’s not baseboards to be in matte. But everyone has different tastes.

The benefit of a semigloss is that it will be easy to wipe down if your kid colors on it or whatever, so it might make sense for that reason alone!

We have a second hand dresser that we want to paint white for a nursery. We have semi gloss white paint that we used for the baseboards... could we use this? Or is there better paint to use?
