@Alivoo01: I wanted to follow up and say that we haven been sleep training for about a week now and even with minor interruptions to schedule here and there bc of the holiday, LO has done really well. I was super worried in the beginning but the crying has lessened A LOT and LO is even putting himself back to sleep after waking early from naps...I hope things are going well with you and your LO and just wanted to encourage you. Everyone says sleep training and listening to your baby cry is so hard...and it is so true. But it really has made life so much better and less stressful after doing this for just one week. I hope things are going well with you!!

we started a few nights ago...ugh...he has cried at least an hour the first night (I don't know the exact amount bc DH walked in and tried to rock him but gave up soon after when it wasn't working so we had to resort back to CIO), 2nd night he cried 1 hour 10 min, and tonight he cried 1 hour 17 min!

I'm hoping the next few days are better. My son is also 4 months and usually wakes for 2 feedings. I still feed him bc he hasn't been nursing well during the daytime. And he goes right back to sleep afterwards so I'm okay with that.
Good luck!!

@Alivoo01: yeah if we ever go back to nursing bc of a tooth cutting or something then I only let him nurse one side and then on one side for a few minutes the next day and then by the third night he just sleeps through. He definitely doesn't appreciate being cut off haha but it works a charm for us (we initially did no cry sleep solution at 5.5m)

@scg00387: I'm going to reduce the MOTN feedings to one, and see how that goes. He's currently comfort nursing vs actually eating most of the time. If I pop DS off early, he goes bananas so I don't think I can cut his feeding sessions off earlier. :(

@Alivoo01: Have you tried just cutting back on night feedings or using a different method to get him to go back to sleep in the MOTN? I totally understand doing whatever it takes; but I think it would be a really abrupt adjustment to go from several nursing to CIO with no feeding :sad: My LO nursed once or twice a night until he was 9 months and dropped it on his own after I decided I was going to cut back and not let him nurse as long. It was like he decided it wasn't worth the effort, so he just didn't wake up. You might try it or have your SO go in instead and save yourself some headaches!

@QueensBee: @sandy: @BabyMats: @sheskrafty: Thanks ladies!! Looks like it didn't take too many days to get your LO to get used to the idea. I know it'll be hard still, but at least there's a goal in sight.

@Alivoo01: good luck! It was about three nights and we did motn feedings but eventually he didn't even wake up for that he gives us between 7-8 hr stretches before he wakes up. Trust me we did whatever it took four me to be able to sleep! Don't hang your head in shame!

@Alivoo01: there is no shame in doing what you have to do to get everyone a little extra sleep!! I would not let him go very long during the day without eating so he's nice and full at bedtime though.

~~~~~~~~~ good vibes for you!
We sleep trained at 3 months and it really wasn't too bad. Even the very first night was better than I expected- he cried for about 25 minutes and then slept through the night! I hope it goes well for you too!!!
@hilsy85: He's 4 months.
@lawbee11: this is going to sound bad, but he's up like every hour or hour and half so we've been co-sleeping because I get SOME shut eye vs getting up and down, and every time he's crying, I shove my boob in his mouth to calm him down so that we can both go back to sleep. *hangs head in shame* I'll feed him at a half way point between when he goes to sleep and when he needs to wake up. He's proven during the day time he can go up to 6 hours without eating, so I think up to 6 hours at night is a good mark.
Good luck!!! I hope it goes smoothly.
I probably wouldn't feel comfortable skipping all MOTN feedings. I think it's normal for EBF babies to eat at least once in the MOTN up until 8/9 months. M usually eats once or twice over a 12-hour period and she legitimately seems hungry when she eats. But if he's eating like 5 or 6 times a night then I could see wanting to eliminate some of those feedings.
3 nights!
If you aren't ready to cut out all MOTN feedings, then pick a time and don't feed before then. Then after you feed just put right back in the crib.
I'm at the end of my wire and will start sleep training DS this Saturday (we'll be out of town tomorrow and Friday). I've talked to DH and we agreed on trying the CIO method. I know the first couple nights are the hardest so please send me your good sleep training vibes and any suggestions/recommendations you have!! Thanks!!
Also, how many nights of sleep training did it take you before your LO started going down easier and not as fussy for a long time? Should I skip MOTN feedings?
ETA: DS is 4 months old.
