@MoonMoon: he said it's often receding gums but mine looks good. The mouth rinse is Act with the squeeze top (not pour). I hope the toothpaste helps a lot!

@blackbird: stupid hormones indeed! I'll be interested if your prescription paste and rinse help. I never thought to link my tooth sensitivity to nursing/hormones. I have a dentist appointment later this month and want to bring that up with him. The Colgate has helped me some, but I still have some sensitivity.

@HLK208: ugh that sounds unpleasant. I really hope it's just temporary sensitivity. Maybe I need more calcium? Ugh.,@Adira: that's what I keep reading :(@MoonMoon: does it have SLS? I'm also prone to canker sores. Blarg

@blackbird: hmm, it could be a cracked tooth? But your dentist will probably use cold air and see if that bothers you. Cracks don't always show up on x-rays. The cold air didn't bother me at all so it was just a weird sensitivity issue.

I have a couple of sensitive spots too, and I haven't really solved it. I was using Sensodyne too, and I told my hygenist that it wasn't really working and she suggested a couple of things. One, she said to try Colgate Sensitive, since not everyone responds to the same toothpaste. Second, she suggested that at night, after brushing, I put a little of the toothpaste directly on the sensitive spots. These things have helped me a little. Good luck! I haven't weaned yet, so I have no idea if that'll help. I hope so!

@blackbird: The hormones from pregnancy and breastfeeding can really mess with your gums. That's why lots of dental insurances will pay for an extra cleaning when you are pregnant. I hope it doesn't end up being anything serious for you. The best thing you can do is just take care of your teeth as well as possible. Good luck!

@blackbird: this happened to me after my third pregnancy! I had x-rays done and my dentist couldn't see any issues. I couldn't drink anything cold or eat anything sweet without being in a lot of pain. He gave me a prescription tooth paste that I used for about a month and the sensitivity is totally gone. I'm still BFing so I don't think it's related (at least for me).

I also had cavities after my first and second pregnancy from my gums swelling and hyperemisis but my teeth were slightly uncomfortable not super sensitive like they were after my third pregnancy.

No advice, but I ended up with 8 (!!!) cavities after pregnancy and EBFing. So definitely get it checked out just in case!

Is it possible you might have a cavity? It's common for an increased chance of cavities during pregnancy.

My teeth are really sensitive lately. It started at the end of my pregnancy (sweets in particular hurt my molars) and now I have one tooth (one of my front four) that hurts so bad on the front, down by the gum. I can touch it with a fingernail and it hurts. Next week I have a cleaning.

I started using sensodyne toothpaste a couple months ago. Has anyone had success with anything else? I see my OB Tuesday and will ask her if I need to supplement my diet with something. Did it go away for you after you weaned? I've never had this before, thanks!
