@LBee: my lo is the same. Strangers can't hold her and she's only 5 months. She's a super happy little thing as long as she's with me or my husband. We just moved her crib into her own room so she fights sleep even more than usual to make sure I don't sneak out.

@LBee: Yeah mine would still happily crawl right back into my vag and settle into the womb still at 19 months! Some babies just have extreme clingy personalities. Mine also treated my husband like he was a mass murderer whenever he tried to hold her right from the outset. Now she's finally better with him, but still has extreme clingy phases where she won't sleep alone, has massive tantrums at daycare drop off, and has a fit whenever we're out of sight! I used to feel like it was my fault because we co-slept and I wore her in the carrier all the time, but now with a bit of perspective I think we co-slept and I wore her in the carrier all the time so that she wasn't constantly screaming!

@Rockies11: I think we are going to start actually saying "goodbye" and waving as opposed to just vanishing. He's a clingy baby in general (I joke that he would like to wear my skin if I would let him) so this is just compounding it. Don't even get me started on the impact it has had on his naps... his crib might as well be a den of ravenous lions.

@Mae: I've read about the idea of showing him that people leave and then come back, etc. My mom just texted me that she's noticed that he's tracking people (mainly my dad) as they leave a room and craning his head to watch for when/if they come back. Maybe this is all related to him starting to understand object permanence? I've noticed that now if we take away a toy (okay let's face it hide our cell phone) that he was attracted to, he now remembers that it's gone and cries for it.

Mine is 19 months, and has had bouts of separation anxiety her whole life. It's really sad and hard to leave when she's in a phase. She is also clingy with childcare people when she's feeling separation anxiety - I see them carrying her around the daycare all day long :(. Nothing really helps - I don't draw out goodbyes, but I always say goodbye and that I am coming back to pick her up, and then leave and feel like a monster! The only real advice out there is to not draw out goodbyes or seem anxious yourself because that compounds it!

@LBee: I'm sorry :( My LO does this on and off. She just randomly has decided that sometimes I can't leave. Like, I can't walk 4 feet from her without her flipping the f out. It's so sad. I don't really have an answer but my plan for dealing with it is I have been leaving her more. We have a little playpen area at home and I put her in that and try to leave the room and come back a LOT for brief periods so she gets used to seeing me leave and come back. I haven't really had to deal with the babysitters thing. The only people I've left her with are my husband and mom and she is 100% cool with my husband and only a little sad when I leave her with my mom... but I sort of just keep going and my mom says she just distracts her with stuff that makes her laugh.

Bump... any advice?

He had a babysitter last night and she said even after we left he was unsettled and would look at her face and then start crying. Then he would hold onto her for dear life like he was panicked. Is this normal??

I find that constantly talking to LO and narrating what I'm doing when she can't see me helps (when we're at home of course)

We've gone through separation anxiety a few times, but I don't remember ages. It will pass. Just bear it for a little while.

It's worse at 9 months.. :(. It helps to just say goodbye and leave. The long drawn out goodbyes just make things worse.

LO is 6 mo old and is starting to show signs of getting upset when away from us. Anyone else go through this around 6 mo? When did it pass. Any tips ?
