We fit in perfectly, even being a different race. We all look out for each other, and watch each others houses. Our neighborhood is known for some gang break ins once and awhile, but now our community has been a lot more aware of the situation and have been addressing it for a few years now.</p> <p>I just mention this because even though it might be a segregated neighborhood you might get along terrific with the neighbors anyway. I just thought I would share my story! I wouldn't change my decision of buying this house in a heartbeat. There's an area around here that has the cutest old craftsman homes, but the area is so bad. I'd much, much rather live in a home I didn't 100% love in a safe area then a beautiful house where my family isn't safe. I'm sure you guys will find something workable that you can call home in the area you feel good about! It's not uncommon for prospective homeowners to walk the neighborhood, talk to neighbors, and get a feel for themselves. Maybe you could do that so you get feel out the vibe yourself? Neighborhoods do go through periods of chance, so maybe that one is. There aren't many outside the cities, but in the cities all the pretty ones seem to be in the bad parts of town! I lived in a majority black neighborhood and had a really good experience. (east Oakland, so no joke!). My one break in was from a white serial rapist. Don't worry, I closed the window on him and kept him out. There is huge racial discrimination against white people in the area. I don't mind diversity but I don't want my son bullied for his skin color.
