@lizzywiz: Exactly. After venting on here I was able to have a calm, adult conversation with DH about introducing solids. I just needed to get the 'WTH' out.

Thanks everybody.

@Corduroy: @dagret: I totally get where you are coming from. For me, it was Diet Mountain Dew. Seriously?
Being the catastrophizer that I am, I take moments like those and extrapolate them into, "Well, that's it, I guess it's clear that he can't be left alone with the baby, EVER AGAIN. Who knows what he will do next? Probably drive with her in his lap!" lol.

I don't actually say that out-loud and I am pretty good about talking myself off the ledge before people start staring, but I definitely think it. That's why we have Hellobee, right? To share those WTH moments in a safe place ;)

@Corduroy: You're much nicer than I am, haha. I probably would have already laid down the law to DH when we got home. I agree about not wanting to hurt the ego, so I would have probably said something like "I know you probably didn't realize that it's a big deal, and I know you wouldn't intentionally do anything dangerous, but we can't feed LO things that we aren't sure about (ingredients, allergies, and such). From now on let's just check with each other before we decide to feed LO something for the first time."

Granted I'm only 8.5 weeks with our first so I'm speaking in theory and maybe my reaction will be different in 7 months :-)

@BabyBoecksMom: i know...I was/am still a bit angry at that, even though I'm pretty sure we both had straight whiskey rubbed on our gums and I had the occasional glass of wine while pregnant and the occasional drink now while I breastfeed.

@dagret: head ;-) But seriously? It's still alcohol - lol

@Corduroy: Sorry :-( I would bring it up some other time when you're not so upset. I was the same way about people trying to give my daughter food. It's taken me until now (18 months) for me to realize that it's really not the end of the world, and it's definitely not worth the fight if it only happens one time. Just make sure to communicate (calmly, almost to the point of being nonchalant) to him at some point so he understands that giving an EBF baby something entirely new will most likely mean bad diarrhea.

@mrbee: he dipped his finger in the beer head and then put it in L's mouth. My caffeine hasn't kicked in yet and I can't think of the real name.

Are our husbands related? L will be 6 months and the food DH has given him include:
BEER FOAM
Pancake syrup
Yogurt

I have told him many times that "just a taste" could bring on allergic reactions and not to do it. I think I have drilled into his head that honey could kill him though, so that's something.

I would let it go for now, but in a day or two have a "feeding talk". Just a "hey did you know, they aren't supposed to have citrus and dairy until closer to 9-12 months".

I would just gently explain it to him after the fact. He probably just didn't think of how many ingredients are contained within one little lemon square. Oh men...

I would probably just let it go, at least until you are not too upset about it. Maybe you can do some research together on how and when you would like to intro solids. That should give him an idea of what babies can eat!

DH, 4.5 month old LO and I went to my cow-workers BBQ this afternoon. DH was showing off all his daddy moves when he decides our EBF baby should try a lemon square. WTH? He didn't ask me, just announced to my co-workers he was going to do it. I know he was nervous about being there with a bunch of people he doesn't know but seriously, WTH? I tried to politely discourage him by pointing out that we don't know the ingredients. But obviously it's NOT breast milk! Luckily LO had no interest. I didn't want to have to make a scene in front of my coworkers. I wouldn't even eat it because I thought it might have dairy (makes LO break out/spit up - no mspi diagnosis) and he was going to just give it to her????

DH is a good dad and I try to let him parent in his own way. However, he must not know anything about feeding a baby. I'm just so shocked I don't know how to broach the subject with him. How do I get my point across without destroying his daddy self esteem?
