My kids were both ff and bf and o.m.g there are some nasty stains. I'm annoyed I let my mil do all the laundry. She never spot treated them and almost none of the stains came out. I am going to try oxyclean!

Stains can appear over time, even if not evident when an item is washed and put away.

For any light colored onesies, have you thought about using dye to change the color? I think Mrs. Bee did a post a while ago about doing this for Charlie's leftover for Olive.

@Foodnerd81: Yep, any hand me downs that are stained are from FF babies, it's a yellowish tinge along collars.

@photojane: Well, these were packed away for 2 years, too. But in my research on the stains, I saw something that said formulas that are higher in iron will stain/discolor more? I have a feeling they looked cleaner when she boxed them up, though, and the stains sort of showed up over time. Again, not enough for me to throw them out or anything, but still. Worth the bucket of Oxi Clean.

@Foodnerd81: perhaps she was using a different kind of formula, because we only use formula & I have a messy little eater with no stains. I don't spot treat either. I will say that I've had good luck with Oxyclean on my own stains though!

@Mrsbells: I can only guess that it was from the formula, since I'm sure my SIL washed her baby's clothes just as often as my sister did. Unless she let my brother be in charge of the laundry, in which case... who knows what was going on! But almost all of the clothes I got from them have yellow stains where drool or spit up would land.

I dont have any stains from formula or breast milk. I wasnt aware that either of those leave stains. All my burp cloths which were heavily soaked in breastmillk or formula washed clean with no stains

@zippylef: I'll pick up some Oxy-clean tonight! Good to know it's not worth hanging things in an open window to dry in the sun.

Soak everything in oxyclean. Thats the BEST way to remove formula and poop stains.

Formula stains arent super responsive to the sun treatment, to be honest. It took a good long soak and some spot treatment to get my hand-me-downs and some of C's stuff clean.

@swurlygurl: Some of them are colored, so I don't think bleach would work on a lot of them, but the sun is a good idea. We don't have any outdoor space in our apartment, though, so I wonder if laying them in front of sunny windows would have the same effect!

Bleach? Then you could wash it afterwards a lot of make sure the bleach was out before you put it on your LO.
Or, maybe try putting it in the sun after you wash it? I know the sun is magical at getting stains out of white cloth diapers, so maybe it would work with the onesie too?

I received a lot of hand me down baby clothes from my sister and SIL. I noticed a lot of the ones from my SIL have yellowed stains on the neck and chest, while my sister's didn't-- I am taking a guess here but does formula stain a lot worse than breast milk? Sister breast fed and SIL formula fed, so that's my theory.

My real question is, is there any way to remove the yellowed stains from clothes that have been stored for about 2 years? I am not going to be too fussy about it-- a onesie to go under an outfit doesn't need to be spotless, but at the same time, would be nice if it didn't look totally dirty. Any brilliant solutions?
