I'm going through the same thing at 12w2d. It's been this way since Wednesday. I went through a box of Kleenex in two days. I've been living off of saline spray at the moment. Right now, I'm coughing because the mucus is stuck in my throat. I go to the doctor on Monday for NT scan and then followup on Thursday. I'm hoping that they tell me what I can take or just get through it. I hope it clears up soon or before 14 weeks. Also, I'm pretty sure that I have another UTI as well. At this point, just hoping that the baby's chilling out in my biological bunker while I fight this cold/whatever/UTI.

Careful to use purified or filtered water with that neti-pot. Sometimes there is bacteria in water that is safe to drink, but not necessarily ok when it's put up into your sinus cavity.

Spicy food to help clear the sinuses, honey in hot tea for a sore throat (and hydrating sore mucus membranes), Tylenol for headache/fever, garlic and OJ for... something or other I haven't experienced first hand, but they are supposed to help and they are tasty. Warm baths for relaxation and the steam.

LOL @ the neti pot thing. I wouldn't try one because I'm sure I'd do it wrong!

thanks for the input! I finally gave in and called again (I felt bad bothering them, but not bad enough) and they said sudafed. They actually were like, "Well, being 8 weeks, you probably shouldn't take anything.." so I said, "Earlier in the week the nurse recommended sudafed, so now I'm worried because I took a dose!" And she was like, "Oh no, don't be worried! In bad cases, that's what we would recommend anyway, so no worrying! You'll get a list on Monday."

Well, I think this is a bad case, so I took a dose today. I felt guilty for a bit..until I realized I could breathe!! I'm not going to take anymore (try to make it to Monday) but that was okay for me.

I do have a warm mist humidifier & just bought a neti pot..although it never came back out of my nose so I'm not sure what I did wrong!! LOL.

It's funny how different doctors recommend completely different things! Mine said no meds in the first tri, if at all possible. But did recommend saline spray, neti pot, and a humidifier.

Sometimes warm moist air can help more than the cooler vapor of a humidifier, so I'd take long showers, and that really helps me. I also put peppermint oil (or vicks) in a tissue inside my pillowcase at night and those vapors always makes a huge difference when I'm stuffy.

Adding to the neti-pot recommendations! What about Benedryl or another anti-histamine - those were first-tri approved by my midwife. Good luck and feel better soon!

I had a severe head cold about a month ago. I was in my second trimester, so I was allowed Sudafed and Claritin, but I was told that Sudafed is a big no-no in the first. I'd recommend the neti-pot if you can (just be sure to use bottled/filtered water), and Claritin if it's really bad. Also, go now and buy a warm mist humidifier and Vicks inhalant. Sleep with that bad boy right next to you!

Yeah, like @yoursilverlining, I took Tylenol Cold. It was a lifesaver. I'm frowning at your PCP nurse right now. I would go with what your OB says, not a PCP nurse.

My OB recommended Tylenol Cold (not “Multi-Symptom”, just “cold”) for my first trimester cold. It helped a lot.

I have also heard of the neti pot. I also like to fill the bathroom sink up with boiling water, put a towel over my head and breath in the steam, the hotter the water the better. I find that usually works for a little while and you get a facial at the same time!
As for who to trust, in my case, I hired my midwives to take care of me and my babies during my pregnancy, they are the specialists I trust in this kind of care. My GP is great but doesn't specialize in pregancy. Personally, I don't go on the interent looking for information and I trust my midwives when it comes to all things baby related. If you search hard enough you will find exactly the answer you want. I think in your heart you would feel more comfortable not taking anything, so you should do what falls in your comfort level.

I was not sure if this would go under health or general pregnancy. Probably pregnancy, since it has to do with first trimester? Anyway..

I am desperate for help. I have the worst cold/allergies/estrogen-fueled misery going on. All last 2 weeks, I had horribly severe post nasal drip. I gagged and dry-heaved all day, and nothing helped. Now, it's turned into a full-blown post nasal drip WITH stuffy nose. I can't breathe at night (even sleeping with a humidifier), I'm going through boxes of tissues per day, and now I can feel it moving into my chest (when I cough).

TMI - it's not green, still clear. Which is why I'm not necessarily convinced it's a cold.

I called my OB-GYN nurse and she recommended Sudafed (yes, she knew I was only 7 weeks, yes, I asked a bajillion times). However, I googled and panicked. No Sudafed for me. I then called my PCP triage nurse, who said "Absolutely NO medicine until you're in second trimester! Saline for nose if necessary."

Who to believe? What to take? I don't have my first appt until Monday (8 weeks) but I am so desperate to just make it through this weekend.
