@PawPrints: same. And honestly, I’d take the puking. I threw up on my husband’s shoes and I had to tell him to move out new baby so I didn’t throw up on the baby too.

I didn't have any itchiness with my cs but I did puke multiple times during the surgery, before and after baby was born. So maybe I got the pukey drugs instead of the itchy drugs?

I had a csection 1.5 weeks ago. I was so itchy. The nurse the next day washed down my legs with mouthwash. This really did help smooth the itchiness. My other option was Benadryl, but I wanted to avoid that if possible because I didn't want to be any extra sleepy.

@Mrsbells: yes I had itching after both c-sections. The first time I was super out of it, didn’t really realize it was from the drugs and just kind of dealt with it. The second time I knew it was a side effect and so requested meds to help with that. Plus I was nauseous (and like @sckim: threw up during my surgery) so I got something for that. I had a horrible reaction to the drugs they gave me and turned what would have been manageable into a terrible night after delivery. I couldn’t take care of the baby and my husband had to sit and hold my hand all night long while I tried to stay calm/not shake. My body just doesn’t handle epidural/spinal meds well and more drugs on top of that just weren’t the answer. Anyway just sharing my experience bc I thought I was doing the right thing being more proactive the second time and it made everything much worse! I hope you have a better experience.

ETA: I don’t remember exactly what they gave me for the itching but I know it wasn’t benedryl. I really wish they had just given me that bc I think that would have been fine!

@Mrsbells: Horribly itchy after my first, and as a result I talked to both my OB and anesthesiologist before my second c-section 3 weeks ago to mention it was a crappy side effect and that I was nervous about it. It was just as bad this time  . That being said, Benadryl helped the itching, and also helped me sleep the first 36 hours after, so that was okay. I came across this article-hope it helps! https://www.babymed.com/blogs/jaclyn-stewart/relieving-itch-after-c-section-requires-promptness

@Mrsbells: oh boo. I had different hospitals (moved away and then moved back in between kids) and different doctors so maybe they did each have different protocols and go to combos. . You’d think with all of the advancements in medicine they could figure this out. It really is the worst and I hope either way that it doesn’t happen to you again!! Best of luck with the delivery and recovery! :goodluck:

@charlotte: ah ok good to know. I would rather be nauseous than itchy if I had to choose. Both times they have come to talk to me pre op. Thr 2nd time I asked him about it and he told me to just take benadryl afterwards! I guess he has a good mix of drugs that he didn't want to mess with.

I had horrible itching with my first 2! It was probably the worst part of the whole thing. Benadryl did nothing! I mentioned it to the anesthesiologist when she stopped by my pre-op room and she said she could try something that might make me nauseous. So sorry, I don’t remember the name, BUT I wasn’t nauseous and I didn’t itch! Definitely ask them if they come by and introduce themselves beforehand.

I was pretty itchy. Especially my face. The nurse said she could give me something for it that would take it away, but I was feeling lousy and had puked so I took the itching over more drugs.

@sckim: oh my goodness the itching is beyond zyrtec they give benadryl for it but it does nothing and its so intense and over the whole body and face. I will ask about toradal i dont know if i had that last time. I was given hydrocodone which gave me the shakes when i was dropped to a lower dose on discharge

the morphine is usually mixed in with the spinal (duramorph) I get extremely nauseous and actually threw up during my csection, but to me its worth it. They can give you zofran before the duramorph to help with the nausea. Toradal (strong IV version of ibuprofen) is standard with csections now and you should be given that. I asked that the toradol be given for 3 days around the clock (it helps a TON!) oral narcotics (percocet/norco) can also make you slightly itchy. Maybe you can take a little bit of zyrtec to help with the itchiness?

@Mrsbells: I'm not 100% sure about that. I had the spinal, we found out my body metabolizes whatever it was faster than they wanted because I was able to basically transfer myself from recovery bed to the bed for my room with minimal help

I didn't have any itching after my c section, but they also didn't give me morphine. They did give me a shot of something amazing in my IV after they brought me up from recovery, I can't remember what it was though (I'll ask my friend that works mother's and babies floor @ that hospital)

ETA: Toradol (it worked great, didn't feel high, but definitely didn't feel pain)

I posted about this before and was curious if since then any of you have had better results. For my last 2 csections I have been horribly itchy for the 1st 24 hours after the surgery. I was told it's thr morphine that causes it. My OB said I could refuse the morphine but would be in more pain and could opt to try a different pain med in my iv line.
Has anyone tried this,
