@Shantuck: glad you’re feeling better. Was also going to suggest the spinning babies website for exercises you can do.

The baby has mercifully moved out of my ribs... but ouch! I think I'm still bruised from yesterday. Thanks for all the suggestions, commiseration, etc. I have the phone number of a chiropractor, if needed, and lots of things to try if/when this happens again next.

@Shantuck: this happened with my second. My chiro was able to give me an adjustment and then she used k-tape to help spread my ribs apart. It helped so much!

I also recommend getting on all fours like @jennlin821. Gravity does wonders.

This was me with my first too. The pain was in my upper rib cage so I used to position an ice pack in my sports bra and try to stretch myself out as much as possible. It sucked but went away once I delivered.

Ouch! This happened with two of my kids. One of them was apparently twisting up my insides so I'd get nasty pain after every meal - this lasted a few weeks, then went away. The other one was just a big baby, and had nowhere to put her feet so she stuck them in my ribs. Massaging the spot helped a little, but I was pretty uncomfortable till she was born.

@Shantuck: This happened to me with my first. Was never totally sure if I had cracked a rib or what. It went away before l&d which I was really worried about since I didn’t think I could labor with the pain ....maybe lasted about 4 weeks? Lots of Tylenol and I used a heat pack constantly but it just sucked, hope it’s easier for you!

When I needed to lie on my back, I would put a thin pillow under one side of my back; that way I could lie flat, but I was tilted a little to one side.

When my LO was in an uncomfortable position, I found it helped to get on all fours and let my belly hang down. It seemed to give the baby more space to move around, and it I swung my body side to side, she would usually move.

Good luck!!

My first seemed to constantly put himself in my ribs towards the end. I remember I often would just dig in there with my hands, push him out, and then often sit there with my hand pushing down as a barrier to keep him from going back up there. Not a great solution, but it was the only thing that seemed to work.

I'm 35 weeks with baby #3 and he appears to have lodged himself into my ribs. I woke up last night with sharp rib pain and was unable to get comfortable (except for lying on my back, which I know I'm not supposed to do). He appears to still be in this position and every time he moves I get a sharp pain in the ribs. I'm just wondering if this happened to others and whether there is anything that can be done to manage the pain (heating pad, ice packs, massaging the baby out of the area, etc.). I'm desperate!
