Cool- I think I will try cutting but leave it a little long just in case I do need to hem it. This is my last pregnancy so I just want it to work for the rest of the summer.

@Foodnerd81: if you don't really care about the edges rolling up then you could just cut it and not hem it. Otherwise a zig zag hand or machine stich would do

@Foodnerd81: Cutting should be okay. It will roll a bit, but from what I've read, it shouldn't unravel. The stretch stitch is just to keep your stitches from popping.

@avivoca: I would only be sewing it by hand, so could I just do a zig zag stitch that way? Even better would be just cutting. As it is I've only pushed the sleeves up to my elbows so it's not like the hem is on display.

If you just cut them, they shouldn't unravel, but you might want to talk to a fabric store about that material. If you want to hem them, you need a ball point needle and to use a stretch or even zig-zag stitch.

Hoping someone with a little more knowledge than me can help me here.

I bought a long sleeve maternity rash guard for this summer. It was on clearance and less than $12, so I'm ok that it wasn't perfect.

I'd like to make it short sleeves. The sleeves are black and too hot. Can I just cut them at the elbow? Do you think I need to hem them or can they just roll a little? Anything special to hem stretchy material? It's nylon spandex. Like I said it does not need to be prefect, just comfortable.
