@Bao - So jealous of your 8:30 am wakeup! I have a great sleeper so I'm not complaining but that sounds so good right now :)

8 months:
wakeup: 6am (ouch)
AM nap: 9-10:30 or 11
PM nap: 2-3:30 or 4
Bed: 7:15

Sometimes she'll nap for 40 minutes and won't go back down. In that case I work hard to keep her up until the next nap or (if it's the PM nap) until bedtime. Things get all messed up when I don't at least try to stick to the schedule.

@scg00387: i hear ya, we are in the middle of sleep training and ive noticed she just wakes up and plays in the MOTN when her last nap is too close to bedtime...which isnt too big of a deal but i'd like her to be tired enough for bed to STTN or at least close to it.

6am: wake
9am: nap 1 (usually 1.5 hours, sometimes longer) - sometimes the nap is a little earlier if he wakes earlier, like if he's up at 5:30, nap is usually 8:30 or 8:45.
2pm: nap 2 (usually 1 hour, sometimes longer). If he takes a monster morning nap (2+ hrs we bump this back to 2:30)
7:30: bed (STTN)

@NovBaby1112: he used to go down around 7 and with the two naps the past week and a half he's usually asleep by 615 or 630 at the latest. When he was taking a third nap he wasn't sleepy or falling asleep until like 8 but still getting up at 630! So we were in the same boat.

awesome, thaks guys! this weekend was crazy out and about doing stuff, but now that we are home I am going to try to see how 2 naps goes. I was worried 6.5 months was too young for 2 naps, but I see some other mama's with LO's the same age on 2 naps so we will see!

@scg00387: this is the schedule i was sort of thinking of,...LO has naps around the same time. Did you have to move bedtime earlier for a few days? Right now she's been going to bed later than usual bc of the third nap which is why i want to get rid of it.

We put LO on a 2-3-4 schedule at 6 months. She wasn't napping before then. Her naps tended to be at 9ish and 1ish. Now at 12 months they are 2.5-3 hours after waking (9 or 10) and around 2.

I decided to cut out his 3rd nap for that exact reason. he started not going to bed til after 9:30 every night. he's 9 months old now and his sleep schedule is something like this:

5:00/5:30am night wake for nursing
8:00am wake up, nurse, have baby cereal for breakfast
10am-12pm first nap. sometimes down nurse for nap, depending on how he's feeling
12:00pm nurse, eat lunch
3pm-3:30 or 4pm second nap. nurse before nap
6:00pm nurse again, eat dinner
7:00pm bath time, story time, nurse and bottle before bed
8:00pm bed time

I experimented with different schedules, and this 2, 3, 4 schedule has worked well so far. for the first week or so I had to focus on not letting him fall asleep at 6pm, when he used to have his 3rd nap, but once he got past that we were golden. he used to nap only 45 minutes at a time

Once LO transitioned from three naps, he basically put himself on a 2-3-4 schedule. He would wake between 6:30-7am, go down for first nap no later than 9am (90 min long), go down for second nap no later than 2pm (90 min long), bedtime by 7:30pm.

Miss A is 7.5 months and we've been on a two nap schedule for about three weeks now which so far is working really nicely!

Here's our rough day:

0730 - Wakeup
0930-1000 - nap
1130-1200 - awake
1500 - nap
1600 - awake
1900 - start bedtime routine.

We've justttt been switching from 3 to 2. Even when he is getting more day sleep with the 3, lately it seems like he is just as cranky once he wakes up and then has trouble falling asleep so fingers crossed, I'm going to try and stick with the 2.

His naps have been variable but this is vaguely our day lately:

6:30 wake
7a eat
8:45/9 nap - 10/11ish
11a eat
1/1:30 nap - 2:30/3ish
3a eat
6p eat
6:30 asleep
(1/2a eat)

I was just wondering this same question!

My LO is 15 months old. Up until a couple weeks ago, her schedule looked like this:

Nap 1: usually around 2 hrs long (6am - 8am). She'll wake up at 6am for about 15 minutes to nurse and then will go right back to sleep

Nap 2: usually around 1.5 - 2 hrs long (usually goes down around 11:30am).

Nap 3: usually around :30 (around 3:30pm)

The two earlier naps are the same, but lately she's been fighting the 3rd short nap and trying to stay up from about 1:30/2pm to her bedtime of 6:30/7pm. It makes for some loooong afternoons.

What times are your LO's naps? Maybe you could try to push up the morning nap a bit so that the afternoon nap ends a little later (maybe around 2:30/3pm)?

I think LO is transitioning to 2 naps. She's been taking a super long morning nap (2-2.5 hrs) and a long afternoon nap (1.5-2 hrs) so it's been really hard lately to squeeze a third nap in without it being too close to bedtime, but I am also worried about her being overtired as well. How did you make the transition? Share your schedules with me so I can get an idea, thanks!!
