@Skadi: The book changed my life!! I went on a huge organization purging spree this week. I feel like I made a giant leap in my organization skills and have lots of blank space in every room. Everyday I want to do more. Kon Mari is super effective. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have eight drawers in my bathroom vanity. Each drawer has a purpose and is filled.

1) First aid/ pain meds & Feminine products
2) Make up
3) Hair- brushes, combs, twists, products I can lay flat
4) Nails- polish, files, pedi stuff, nail clips
5) Teeth- toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss gear
6) Face- moisturizer, face scrubs, masks, extraction tools
7) Shaving & Deoderant
8) oversize stuff- Qtips, large jar hair creams

The cabinet contains things that must be store upright.

My husband has the same type of vanity and so far the only two drawers he's consistent with are one for his boxed hair dye and for his body shavers.

I read this one in an organization magazine years ago: fold and tie each set of your linens together with twine. My linen closet is so neat now, and I'm never at a loss for where that second pillow case went. Taking it a step further, tie a coloured gift tag onto the bow (or use coloured twine) to show sizes or whose room it goes with.

@Skadi: I checked out that book you suggested it and I read it in one night.

I thought some of it was kind of silly - (thinking that your socks have feelings and they don't like to be balled up) but I think it really changed the way I think about things and how I want to live in my home.

Thanks for the recommendation!

LABELS - it makes such a difference!!

I will organize something, but if it is not labeled, no one except me knows where it goes.

I just have a cheap label maker I use, or I write with a sharpie on a piece of tape (or washi tape if I want it to look nice).

Reusing boxes! We keep toys in diaper boxes with little handles, documents and receipts in shoe boxes, crafts supplies in random little boxes that must have come with packages, and little things in cute cookie tins :) There's not a lot of space in the house, so anything that stacks is worth its weight in gold.

I use baskets, totes, containers for EVERYTHING. Under the sink there is a small container for tampons/ect, there's another for cleaning supplies, another for misc. stuff. Having it in 3 things makes it look so much better.

LInen closet: this ends up being our "ugh just put it in there for now" place. SO I have to be very careful about this one. I have a shelf for extra items (TP, paper towels, ect.) and then another shelf for linens/towels and I make sure that nothing else gets added to those shelves.

I use cheap plastic shelves in the basement storage rooms, but these are lifesavers in keeping me organized. And easy to find things. Nothing is heavy so the cheap ones work just fine, and no one sees them!

I go one step further on the linens and keep them in the room where they belong, in the bottom drawer of one of the night stands.

I also keep appropriate cleaning supplies in all locations in the house, nothing wrong with having a minute and pulling out a dustcloth. I will do more that way than if I have to go somewhere to get a rag and polish.

This book is amazing. The first half is, anyway--the second half is geared more toward a Japanese Shintoist audience, so you'll like it if you're open to a feng shui sort of thing, and you'll roll your eyes if you're not.

It takes about six months to clean according to her method, and I'm only in the beginning stages right now...but I can already tell a huge difference!

@mrs. bird: haha that's hilarious! I feel like mine was probably a bath and body product basket of some kind....not sure.

@Ash: we use a lot of the cheap clear shoebox size plastic boxes! I keep all my dangerous cleaning products on a high shelf in an Amazon box that I trimmed the flaps off of, though.

Try to make use of vertical space, too-like that sliding metal drawer thing I have in the bottom right photo-that one is good for the little tucks containers, dermaplast, tampons, and pads.

When I organize medicines, I used to organize them by type and stick them in a plastic bag. All the anti nausea meds in one bag, for example. I actually went through and threw out a ton of meds that we don't use anymore. I'm really working to cut the clutter and just keep what we regularly use around. I found three containers of foot powder in DH's bathroom (3!!!) and two big bottles of Pepto....just unnecessary extras because we didn't know what we had when we thought we were out!

@Ash: shop around your house first if you don't care about the baskets & bins matching. You'd be surprised what you can find to reuse! @blackbird: I appreciate your use of what could have once been an Easter basket. My lady toiletries are kept in an old TMNT head Easter basket head :D

keep sheets together in the pillowcase, that way they can't get tipped over in the linen closet and it makes it easy to grab a set when you go to change them. i pack out of season clothes in luggage and keep them under the bed. space bags are amazing! i like the hanger ones for jackets. over the door shoe organizers are your friend! the one in my bedroom is used for my shoes, but in my office i have one for all sorts of random crap that would otherwise be in a junk drawer never to be found again :D
