This isn't makeup but I am big on using apple cider vinegar for everything! Acne remover, hair stripper, foot soak, heartburn relief.

For those of you who shop at Sephora/Dept stores, my trick to save money is to buy gift cards for these places at the grocery store when they have promos going on. For instance, Safeway had a Mother's Day promo where if you bought a $50 Sephora card, you'd get $10 of groceries free. I look at that as a 20% discount since I was going to buy groceries anyway.

Combine that with the fact that you get gas rewards at Safeway (10c off per gallon), credit card rewards (grocery stores earn 2% back on my Amex) and ebates cash back (typically 5-8%), and you're looking at a 25+% discount.

If I wait until the November F&F 20% off sale, I'm doing even better!

I know that's not quite in the same vein of the original post, but I can't seem to give up my brand name makeup so this is how I get everything for a discount.

I have found the ultimate mascara for me. Covergirl volume express falsies (waterproof)! I was soooooo sad when they discontinued my holy grail mascara from Shiseido and went on a massive hunt for a replacement. After trying 8 different mascaras, I found one that is just as good as my shiseido one! I'm so happy that it's a drugstore brand find. I've stocked up and bought 8 of them with a buy one get one 1/2 off sale. Love it!!!

@ladyfingers: Awesome, thanks for the shampoo & conditioner recs!

@shopaholic: Good tip about L'oreal. Also, I've never tried the Almay remover pads but I have a bottle of Neutrogena remover and it works great and lasts forever.

I also love the L'Oreal Voluminous mascara, I get free mascara samples all the time at Sephora and they are all clumpy or start to smell bad after just a few uses!

Also, I have curly hair and do the no-poo method (actually modified if you care, I use a cheap sulfate shampoo just on my oily roots but only after coating the rest of my hair with conditioner) and hands down the best hair products I've tried are Suave coconut conditioner (like $2 for a huge bottle), L'Oreal's Ever Creme nourishing conditioner as a leave-in, and Garnier pure clean gel! Way better and cheaper routine than the $25+ Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious line or anything like that

I really like the new Revlon Colorstay Whipped foundation--easier to blend than the regular Colorstay. One of my other favorite drugstore foundations is Rimmel Lasting Finish. Dare I say I enjoy it more than Colorstay?

Love, love, love the Costco makeup remover wipes! $12 for 150 wipes or something like that. It's a huge box that takes me forever to use up.

Have any of you checked out Youtuber EmilyNoel83? She does great reviews of drugstore products.

Discount Store Faves:

- L'oreal Telescopic Liquid Eyeliner
- L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara
- L'oreal True Match Foundation
- Almay Moisturizing Eye Makeup Remover Pads

I'm always happy with my L'oreal purchases from drugstores. There is always excellent lasting quality, rich pigmentation, and doesn't bother my sensitive skin. Especially with eye products since you do replace them pretty quickly!

@Modern Daisy: Yes! Revlon Colorstay is great!! the only thing is it's a bottle with no pump, so it does get a little messy, but hey for $9-11 as opposed to $25+ it's no biggie!

@Sammyfab: You're absolutely right w/the mascara - I used to be an avid fan of Chanel Dior Show Unlimited until they discontinued it, and I was forced to shop around, but I now LOVE L'oreal's voluminous.

@chibee: Oh great thanks so much for the foundation tip! I ended up caving and buying Laura Mercier moisturizing foundation because I couldn't find any info on the drugstore brands. I will keep that in mind when it needs replacing for sure!

@Sammyfab: I 100% agree with you about mascara, I should have included that as one of my discount finds but didn't even think about it since I never buy designer mascara. I use the million dollar lashes volumizing and it's great. The only time I've ever used designer mascara is when it came as a free gift or when someone bought it for me and the only difference I noticed is the expensive stuff doesn't last as long!

@Modern Daisy: this is a great thread! I'm totally going out and buying the neutrogena concealer!

A tip my friend gave me is to not spend a lot of money on mascara since you're supposed to throw them out after a few months. My favourite is maybelline the colossal mascara (I also love benefit they're real mascara but that's not really a bargain!).

1. Cetaphil moisturizing cream: i've tried many, many expensive moisturizers and this is by far the BEST one i've tried. It's soooo moisturizing without feeling greasy, and in the winter it's a godsend.

2. L'oreal lineur intense: this is the only liquid eyeliner I use. It's basically identical to the lancome artliner which is a pricey $28 - I have used both and at $8-$9 a pop for L'oreal, you can't beat the price!

3. Revlon Colorstay foundation: if you wear liquid foundation, this is by far the BEST drugstore foundation. It goes on nice and even and smooth, and gives you a flawless look. Also lasts way longer than any drugstore brand out there, including l'oreal, neutrogena, and cover girl. It is very comparable to my favorite department store foundation, MAC studio finish liquid.

I am a beauty product/makeup junkie!

@crash806: I used the Ultra Facial Cream day and night. I now use Neutrogena oil free moisture for sensitive skin. It's not as creamy as the Kiehls but it works just as well and has all the same features I look for in a moisturizer - like no SPF, non greasy and long lasting. It's actually very comparable to the Kiehls believe it or not and less than 1/2 the price.

I updated all of my makeup this weekend and I'm so excited to share three low cost/drugstore finds that helped me keep the total cost down and work great so far. I did some research ahead of time since I knew I was running out of my expensive makeup and was worried about the idea of replacing basically everything at once.

#1 - Concealer: Neutrogena Health Skin Brightening Eye Perfector. At $14 ($12 in the rest of the country) this replaced my $50 Chanel Lift Lumiere. I've always had dark circles under my eyes and I now also need something that won't crease in my fine lines and this totally does the trick. It's also easier to use since the Lift Lumiere pumps out a lot at once even if you press it lightly, so I would waste a big gob of it every morning. Overall I can't tell the difference between the two after wearing it all day and the Neutrogena is actually a better match for my skin color.

#2 - Eye Shadow: Bare Minerals Eyecolor - $14 for one pot of color, I bought Vanilla Sugar. I usually buy Lancome or Bobbi Brown eyeshadow so even though this wasn't a drugstore buy it was about 1/2 the price of what I usually pay. I like the color just as much and it's easier to use as well.

#3 - I also regularly use Neutrogena sensitive skin moisturizer which I started buying instead of Kiehls months ago when I realized DH was using it as well and we needed to replace it every couple of weeks which was getting expensive. It's about 1/2 the price and works just as well for day and night.
