It really doesn't take much gear. I made our own food with an immersion blender and froze it in a silicone tray (the Beaba one, I think). We bought the OXO Tot high chair and spoons and a Baby Bjorn bib that I LOVE. It'd been our only bib for two years now. Some ikea plates and bowls, and we were set to go. Oh, and after trying a million cups, we finally got DD to drink with a Lollacup.

I made all our own purees until LO turned 1 and I loved the Beaba Babycook (and basically all the accessories). I liked the concept of the The Little Green Pouch for using our own purees, but LO didn't take to the pouch like some kids, so we always used containers with locking lids. Loved the Beaba spoons too.
Another vote for Bumkin bibs, especially the ones with sleeves. We still use them now, past 2. Ditto with the ZoliBot cups.
Munchkin snack cups with the lids so they can get their own snacks.

Basically the cheap stuff from ikea. High chair, utensils, maybe some plastic bowls. We still use all of those regularly at 3 years, too. If you're into gear, go nuts with it, but you really don't need much.

We use:

-Ikea Antilop Chair

-Prince Lionheart Splat Mat

-Gerber brand spoons with the flat ends to scrape puree off their face

-GladWare or Ziploc brand tiny plastic lidded containers. They are 4oz containers and BPA free. Perfect for homemade baby food.

- We use the Bumkin super bib (the one that's extra long) mostly because its the one with the snuggest neckhole - all the others we bought were too big at the neck and he got food all over his collar. But I just ordered the pullover bibs because he learned to yank the bib off by the velcro!

- The Sassy Wheel suction toy is the best, as well as easily washable toys like Sophie, Soothie Pacificiers for chewing on, and plastic bath books that can be rinsed off.

- We use the Munchkin Latch transitions cup.

- For self feeding, he eats puffs and just got into raisins. For gumming, we give him apple slices, green bell pepper slices, and cucumber spears (peeled at first).

@YouGotMe: so, I started offering it to him around 6.5 months. He still doesn't fully understand how to tip it back, I have to tip it for him. But I like that I can push on the "lip" of silicone and some water trickles out for him. So I feel like he's learning from that that water comes out and will encourage him to learn how to do it.
He doesn't know how to use ANY sippy cup, traditional or straw, either. So I figure why not offer this one since its most similar to a regular cup anyway.

We use the same spoons and bowls and high chair that @Adira: mentioned. We used some bibs from BRU used take and toss style sippy cups because that's what her school used as well. We also only did store bought baby food.

We need to replace our chair because I lost the harness when it was washed and not put away appropriately, and I'm likely to get the one that @Mrs. High Heels: mentioned. I didn't like that the tray from the FP Space Saver doesn't fit in our dishwasher.

@snowjewelz: You really don't need to buy a lot. Spoons if you are doing purees. Bibs for sure. You don't need plates right away. And a high chair.

Tommee bibs were my favorite. They catch food and you can just wash them after every use.

@FaithFertility: I actually have a rec for you... What about this? I think I'm buying this next to transition to sippy cups eventually! http://amzn.com/B00PF844GI

BLW is a pretty big thing... Basically from what I've read, skipping the puree stage all together and give baby real, bite sized food and follow their lead to see what they're ready for? I'm prob not going that route, but since we still have more than a month I figured I'd just look into everything!

Another vote for bumkin bibs! They hang dry really fast and you can even throw them in washer if they get icky. They have full arm versions that I use with my toddler when he feeds himself messy stuff.

Stokke Tripp Trapp chair
Baby Bjorn food catcher bibs
Oxo Tot forks and spoons and unbreakable plates/bowls
We introduced water in a straw cup around this time and used Zoli cups.

I did a mix of purees and BLW with DD and mainly just purees with DS. I used the food processor that I already had (Cuisinart) and silicone ice cube trays for freezing portions. Once the portions were frozen, I popped them out into labeled ziplock bags.

@faithfertility: Baby-led Weaning ('weaning' used in the UK sense meaning to introduce solids). Basically you follow your baby's lead and always let them feed themselves.

@FaithFertility: M also went on a bottle strike from his caregivers (but would strangely take it from me and his dad). He did fine taking pumped milk from a sippy cup or a normal cup though. No specific sippy cup to recommend -- I haven't found anything yet that I loved. Good luck!

I agree with @StrawberryBee re the Kidsme silicone feeder! Great for a few weeks/months when they are just starting to explore foods and flavors.

LO is 9 months and we've done a combination of BLW and purees. Never bought kid-specific prep tools, just used the blender we had, put through a food mill, or mashed with a fork.

We love the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair. Agree with @SweetiePie re having a suction toy for the tray while you are prepping.

LO just started being able to use the Zoli straw cup well. Before that we were using sippy cups (never found one I loved), water bottles and regular cups (both with assistance from an adult). We mostly just put food on his tray for him to eat with his hands. Have a couple of generic kid spoons. Get a couple of bibs (and a travel bib -- we like the cute Skip Hop travel bibs that roll up into themselves). Reusable snack bags are great for travel too. And disposable placemats are nice for restaurants.

We use small glass containers with lids for storing food (like these http://www.amazon.com/Anchor-Hocking-Ounce-Glass-Custard/dp/B001HIAD2Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429825149&sr=8-1&keywords=small+glass+storage). And silicone ice trays for freezing portions of soups and purees (http://www.amazon.com/Tovolo-King-Cube-Ice-Tray/dp/B00395FHRO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1429825556&sr=8-3&keywords=silicone+ice).

Have fun!

I find they leak the least and have minimal parts to wash!

- Fisher price booster seat - http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Deluxe-Booster-Seat-Brown/dp/B00CSAWJPO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1429821950&sr=8-3&keywords=fisher+price+high+chair - Love this thing, we took it with us everywhere (we used it in lieu of restaurant high chairs since those didn't come with a tray), and use it at home too. Space saving, portable, and easy to clean.

- Bumkins bibs - The best feeding bibs! Folds up small for on the go, and catches food really well. Not to mention cute designs!

I didn't want a gazillion spoons, tiny little pots or anything else, so this is working well for us:

Munchkin Love-a-bowls
http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-43867-Love-A-Bowls-Set/dp/B00PTL7CSS

Excellent wipe-clean, inexpensive high chair

We do mashed up foods (usually whatever we're eating, maybe slightly modified) as well as some finger foods. Full on BLW is just too stressful for me...

We are 7.5 months and doing store bought purees and I'm just starting to share some of my food with him.

Love the oxo spoons, they're my fave so far.
http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Feeding-Spoon-Soft-Silicone/dp/B0038JDV0Q

Bumpkins and JJCole bibs are good (the pocket ones)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000XPWXK2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1429820385&sr=8-1&keywords=bumkins+bibs&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=51RYPrFhKkL&ref=plSrch
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FU2LX0Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1429820418&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&keywords=jj+cole+bibs&dpPl=1&dpID=419JgugSuQL&ref=plSrch

I have the Graco Blossom highchair and if you have the room I highly recommend it!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00H8MSEXS/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1429820450&sr=8-1&keywords=graco+blossom+4-in-1+high+chair+seating+system&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=41sXFOBqyaL&ref=plSrch

I keep a pack of water wipes by the chair at all times too, work great for a wipe down at the end (first him, then the chair tray)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008KJQMA0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1429820496&sr=8-1&keywords=water+wipes&dpPl=1&dpID=41Eo-DTfL5L&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SY200_QL40

I also have this thing (I'll look for it) that is a toy that has a suction cup so you can stick it to the tray while yoU get food ready. He loves it.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001539ICW/ref=mp_s_a_1_36?qid=1429820570&sr=8-36&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=suction+cup+toy&dpPl=1&dpID=41qZpDx4EDL&ref=plSrch

I also have the pampered chef glass prep bowls. I use them to mix his purees with cereal, or to squeeze a pouch into it, etc. they come with plastic lids too for storage of leftovers. I had them for cooking, but I don't do that anymore but they work perfectly for this :-)
http://www.pamperedchef.com/shop/Cook%27s+Tools/1-cup+Prep+Bowl+Set/1825

Munchkin Miracle 360 Trianer Cups
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MRZIFD0/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1429820684&sr=8-2&keywords=miracle+360+cup&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=41nPPBwtVqL&ref=plSrch

@StrawberryBee: You reminded me I have a boon feeder like that! I'll have to put some mango or something in it. He is really wanting to grab the spoon and feed himself now but he still doesn't have the pincer grasp down so that might be a good compromise!

Kidsme feeders (or something similar). Silicon pouch with holes that allows you to put in things like soft fruits so that they can munch on it without fear of getting a big chunk (if you aren't doing baby led weaning). I never got a special baby blender for the purees, just silicon ice cube trays and my regular blender worked fine.
