@Goldilocks1107: my midwife told me no kegels until she gave the okay (if you have stitches)

Tucks - agreed!!! loved those things

herbal/salt bath mix - I steeped them and then poured it into the tub - the soaking helped SO much!!

New mama bottom spray from earth mama angel baby was AMAZING!!! so awesome. I sprayed it all over down there after every bathroom use and it helped so much.

ice paks- the ones they had at the hospital were AWESOME and I had them give me a new one each time the old one got cold. They felt so good.

Sitz bath worked the best for me. Also soaking my nipples in the bath helped a lot with sore nipples. I also slept with an ice pack in my crotch for 2 weeks.

I have a question on the freezing maxi pads/diapers thing. Do you let it thaw out a little or put anything between you and the frozen item? Or just direct frozen-to-skin contact?

@jessiejo17: I went to bryan...They give you a box of stuff after your move down to the room you stay in with baby, so you just take what is leftover after your stay. There isn't much left but you should take a few Pads, a squirt bottle, Dermoplast spray and I asked for some tea diapers. (but also made them when I got home.) I would get more dermoplast and pads, you'll run out fast. You will love Bryan. The labor and delivery staff were really great, the post partum nurses that I had were ok.

hmm where do you buy the spray stuff, is it called dermaplast? I don't think my hospital gives you that, I think they do give you tucks though.

@Goldilocks1107: Ditto on the taking it slow...I tried to go for a walk a day or two after we got home at my "normal" pace and almost passed out...but given my blood loss during delivery I probably should have known to take it much slower than I did.

My nurse suggested taking one Tylenol and one Ibuprofen (together). One for the pain, one for the swelling...and taking them right before a warm bath is awesome.

tea diapers!
I hurt for 5-6 weeks. my postpartum recovery was so slow! tea diapers saved my life for the first 2 weeks. They used them at the hospital I was at and I made some when I was home. make a big kettle of black tea, Take a diaper (any size) pour the tea in the diaper..fold it back up and freeze it! use it like a pad!

Cold compresses - the nurses sent me home with 3 compresses I could put in my undies. They were amazing at numbing my lady bits!

I also think "exercising" right away helped my recovery. The second day at home, we took a (very slow) walk around the block. As I felt better, we gradually took longer and quicker walks.

Kegels - do them right away and keep them up! After going to a workout class where I peed a little bit every time I jumped, I really went gung ho about doing Kegels more regularly!

Don't overdo it - it WILL make you bleed more heavily. I always knew if I pushed myself a little too hard during recovery (too much walking/standing/whatever) because I would soak a pad much quicker.

Be aware that painkillers like oxycodone will constipate you! Even without oxycodone the second time, colace did not work for me... keep the fiber going, and other things like coffee. If you can't go, take miralax and benefiber daily.

I LOVED the Tucks wipes, especially on hemorrhoids...I still use them. The Sitz bath didn't do much for me, but sitting or lying on a folded up towel in a warm bath for 10-15 minutes does wonders for my lady bits and my still sore back and tailbone. The towel is crucial.

Anyone have ant post-partum recovery tips they want to share?
