This is ours- not really tidied when I took the picture but it stores a ton of toys (plus we out extra bulk things from Costco in the bottom cabinets). It's in our living room so we wanted as much storage as possible.

[attach=2307/16/o4ysiv.450x600.image.jpg]

Eta: IKEA kallux on top of two over the refrigerator cabinets. Dh screwed then together. It's very sturdy.

I have a grey 3 bushel tote from http://www.steelecanvas.com/collections/for-home-baskets
I like it better than a box or chest since she can't pinch her fingers.

@PawPrints: My son is 5, so he's not into the dump and run anymore, so we can keep more stuff around. We also have board games stored there and we've surrounded it with low wooden stools so we can all sit there and either have pizza on movie night or play a game. It's also from IKEA, so I don't care if it gets scratched up. Someone posted about a round coffee table with a drawer in it, I thought that was very forward thinking!

I like to store books in a bin. My son also has a desk/hutch in his bedroom and I used the desk level for books, it worked really well because he could just go right up there and pick something out.

@looch: Our coffee table has a shelf underneath, but it is *completely* covered in board books. She makes an efficient business of pulling them all out onto the floor.

@tlcbaby: My house is kind of like that, I let my son build and then display his lego creations in parts of the house.

In our family room, we specifically got a table that had a shelf underneath it. I put baskets there, for things like Mr. Potato Head, small games, some vehicles.

For action figures (we don't really have any of those yet) but I was thinking an over the door shoe bag would keep them neat-ish...but I am not sure if that's actually a practical solution.

@looch: Action figures, light sabers, swords, balls and then a bunch of little random toys. I just hate how they are basically displayed on shelves in our living room right now. :)

We have a storage ottoman as a coffee table pre kids so now it's DD's toy storage! It's great it's huge and contains everything so if not for the play kitchen and play mat, you wouldn't even know she plays here!

What kinds of toys do you want to store? We basically use buckets or baskets, but for some things, we have "specialized" solutions.

We just have three small baskets spread around the room so she can crawl up to them and dump them out whenever. We got them on Buy Nothing and Craigslist but you can get them at JoAnn or wherever.

We're about to turn our livingroom bookshelf into a bench seat with storage and we'll be keeping their toys in wicker baskets. Currently they use the bottom two shelves of the bookshelf plus a diaper cart to store tots and it's a mess even when it cleaned up. I'm tired of it.

Our bookshelf won't look quite like this but you get the idea.

We've managed to corral most of LO's toys on our DVD/book shelf for the past almost three years, but it is really not working. It's been overflowing for a while now.

What do you use for toy storage in your living room or common areas? Pictures and links would be great!!
